SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE SAME GOD
MalaCHI 2:10-16
“Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us?”
Malachi 2:10ª
The prophet Malachi’s circumstances seemed
somewhat easier than those of the other Old Testament prophets. His ministry takes place when the temple of
Jerusalem had already been restored and therefore also the worship of the Lord.
Nevertheless, new problems now arose.
Those who had returned from forced exile and who returned to the land of
their ancestors found themselves in conflict with those who had remained
behind. Judicial relations were in
crisis due to the corruption of the judges.
There was nostalgia for the splendor of the temple that Solomon had
built and there was also certainly disdain for the current temple…
It is
because of this and for many other reasons that the prophet has to remind all the
people of their common origin: the hand
of the creator God. This is all we need
to acknowledge in order to have truly fraternal relationships.
We need to
remember today as well that we are all sons and daughters of God, and that we
should remove any conduct which leads to raising barriers of exclusion against
one another. There are many temptations
inviting us to set ourselves up as “God’s favorites”. And yet the practice of Jesus of Nazareth and
the examples of many men and women throughout history shows us that the kingdom
of God is an open house.
Prayer: God of goodness, grant that today we may be conscious of your infinite
and impartial grace for all men and women. Amen.

Hijos e
hijas de un mismo Dios
Malaquías 2:10-16
“¿Acaso no tenemos todos un mismo Padre?
¿No nos ha creado un mismo Dios?”

El
contexto del profeta Malaquías parecería ser más fácil que el de otros profetas
del Antiguo Testamento. Él desarrolla su ministerio profético cuando ya estaba
restaurado el templo de Jerusalén y por tanto también el culto a Yahvé. Sin
embargo ahora se levantaban nuevos problemas. Los que llegaban del exilio
forzado y se asentaban en la tierra de sus antepasados entraban en
contradicción con los que allí habían quedado. Las relaciones de justicia
estaban en crisis por la corrupción de los jueces. Existía una añoranza por el
esplendor del templo construido por Salomón y por tanto cierto desdén por el
actual…
Es
por esta y otras muchas razones que el profeta tiene que recordarle al pueblo
cuál es el origen de todos: la mano del Dios creador. Bastaría con reconocer
esto para que nuestras relaciones fueran verdaderamente fraternales.
Hoy
también debemos recordar que todos y todas somos hijos e hijas de Dios, y que
debemos desechar las conductas que signifiquen levantar barreras excluyentes
los unos contra los otros. Existen muchas tentaciones que nos invitan a
erigirnos como los “favoritos de Dios”. Sin embargo la práctica de Jesús de
Nazaret y los ejemplos de muchos hombres y mujeres a lo largo de la historia
nos demuestran que el reino de Dios es casa abierta.
Oración:
Dios de bondad, que en este día estemos conscientes de tu gracia infinita sin
distinciones para todos y todas. Amén.
