ASK IT OF GOD

2 Thessalonians 3:6-15

“He gives power to the faint,

and strengthens the powerless.”

Isaiah 40:29

It’s told that a master was traveling in the desert with one of his disciples. The disciple was charged with the camel’s care. Tired, they arrived at night at the inn for caravans. It was the disciple’s duty to secure the camel, but he didn’t bother to do it, and he left it loose outside. Later, calling upon God he said, “You take care of the camel,” and promptly fell asleep. When morning came the camel was gone; it had been stolen, or perhaps just wandered off. Anything was possible.

The master asked his disciple, “What happened? Where is the camel?” 

The disciple answered, “I don’t know. Ask God, because I was tired and I asked Him to take care of it, therefore I haven’t the slightest idea. I’m not responsible, I told him very clearly to care for it, and as you always teach us that we should trust in Him, I trusted. Don’t be angry with me now.”

The master said to him, “Trust in God, but first tie up your camel, because God has no other hands but yours. Do everything that you can and should, but that doesn’t guarantee the result. Therefore, do everything you should and afterwards accept what happens.”

What a great lesson this illustration offers us! Each of us is responsible for his actions, his deeds. We trust that God is with us, listening and attending to our prayers; we are instruments of his saving action, an important part in his creation. But we shouldn’t and can’t leave everything to Him, we have to do our part and not wait around for things to happen. The losers let things happen; the winners make things happen, and we, the Christians, are winners in Christ Jesus.

Prayer:  Lord, renew my strength to do your will.

PREGÚNTASELO A DIOS

2 Tesalonicenses 3:6-15

“El Señor da fuerzas al cansado, y aumenta el vigor del que desfallece”

Isaías 40:29

Se cuenta que un maestro estaba viajando por el desierto con uno de sus discípulos. El discípulo era el encargado de cuidar del camello. Llegaron a la posada para caravanas de noche y cansados. Era obligación del discípulo atar el camello, pero no se molestó en hacerlo y lo dejó fuera. Luego se dirigió a Dios y le dijo: "Encárgate del camello”, y se durmió. Por la mañana el camello no estaba, había sido robado o se había ido.  Podía haberle ocurrido cualquier cosa. El maestro preguntó a su discípulo: —¿Qué ha pasado? ¿Dónde está el camello? El discípulo le respondió: —No lo sé. Pregúntaselo a Dios, yo le dije a Él que lo cuidara porque yo estaba muy cansado, así que no tengo la menor idea. Yo no soy el responsable, yo se lo dije muy claramente a Dios que lo cuidara, y como tú siempre nos enseñas que debemos confiar en Él, yo he confiado. Ahora no te enfades conmigo. El maestro le dijo: “Confía en Dios, pero ata primero a tu camello, porque Dios no tiene otras manos que las tuyas.  Haz todo lo que puedas y debas, pero eso no garantiza el resultado. Por tanto, haz todo lo que debes y después acepta lo que ocurra, no hay garantía”.

¡Qué gran enseñanza nos regala esta ilustración! Cada uno de nosotros es responsable de sus acciones, de sus actos. Confiamos en que Dios nos acompaña, nos escucha y atiende nuestras oraciones, nosotros somos instrumentos de su acción salvífica, parte importante en su creación. Pero no debemos ni podemos dejárselo todo a Él, tenemos que hacer nuestra parte y no esperar sentados a que las cosas ocurran. Los perdedores dejan que las cosas pasen, los ganadores hacen que las cosas pasen, y nosotros los cristianos somos ganadores en Cristo Jesús.

Oración: Señor, renueva mis fuerzas para hacer tu voluntad.
