JAMES 4:1-10

“You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want.  You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

James 4:2-3

“The only thing I have left to do is to pray,” said a person experiencing a difficult situation. He had sought help everywhere to no avail. Finally, he approached God as a last resort.

This is a frequent attitude. We gather up our own forces to address our difficulties; and when we realize this is insufficient we ask some friend for help, and if this doesn’t help us either, we turn to God. Mistakenly, we only turn to Him when all human resources have failed.

Clearly, we shouldn’t pray to God as if we were making a petition to human beings, saying, “Can you help me get this or that?” One has to say to God, “Lord, you know what I need. Give me that which is good. Submit my heart to your will.”

There’s something we should be quite clear about: We shouldn’t force God’s hand.

Prayer:  Forgive us Lord, because we always want our desires to be imposed upon your will. Help us to understand and accept it. Amen.

SANTIAGO 4:1-10

“No tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís. Pedís y no recibís porque pedís mal, para gastar en vuestros deleites”

Santiago 4:2-3

“Sólo nos queda orar” decía una persona que estaba pasando por una situación difícil. Había buscado ayuda en todas partes, pero no había conseguido nada. Por lo tanto, como último recurso iba a dirigirse a Dios.

Esta actitud es muy frecuente. Reunimos nuestras propias fuerzas para salir por nosotros mismos de la dificultad,  y cuando nos damos cuenta de que eso no es suficiente, pedimos ayuda a algún amigo, y si este tampoco nos ayuda, recurrimos  a Dios. Equivocadamente  sólo nos dirigimos a Él cuando todos los recursos humanos han fracasado.

Es cierto que no debemos orar a Dios como si hiciéramos una petición a los seres humanos diciendo: “¿Me puedes ayudar a obtener esto o aquello?” A Dios hay que decirle: “Señor, tú sabes lo que necesito. Dame lo que es bueno. Somete mi corazón a tu voluntad”

Hay algo que sí debemos tener bien claro: no debemos forzar el brazo de  Dios

Oración: Perdónanos Señor, porque siempre queremos que nuestros deseos se impongan a tu voluntad. Ayúdanos a entenderla y aceptarla. Amén.
