THE POWER THAT COMES FROM WITHIN US
LuKE 6:17-19
“And the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him
and healing them all.”
Luke 6:19
Jesus’s
ability to heal, or miracle-working, was one of the most explicit signs of
God’s presence in that simple man from Galilee.
If there were other famous healers and miracle-workers at that time in
the Holy Land, the way in which Jesus worked his miracles, I am certain, were
totally different. Upon being touched by
Jesus, the man or woman in whom the miracle was worked was not only healed of
his or her physical condition, but also given a new social condition, by the
restoration of religious and civil rights, and self-esteem…It was not just
healing for the sake of healing.
The
sanctity and integrity of the human body as a beautiful creation of God is
defended by the Nazarene Teacher to the utmost.
Thus, he frequently used the terms salvation and healing without
distinction, because for him anything that contributed to the well-being of
humans and their communities, was also a priority for God in his saving
vocation and for the fullness of his kingdom.
We cannot
lose sight of this perspective of Jesus today, and we should strive in order
that our actions are marked by wholeness and integrity. Everything we do should keep in mind the
total dignity of human beings. In this
way we will be approaching the new purpose of becoming the human beings that
God showed us through his son Jesus of Nazareth.
Prayer: God of goodness, give us integral health. We wish to be worthy followers of your light. Amen.
El poder que sale de
nosotros
Lucas 6:17-19
“Y toda la gente procuraba tocarle,
porque poder salía de él y sanaba a todos.”

La capacidad de sanar, o taumaturgia, de Jesús, fue uno de los signos más
explícitos de la presencia de Dios en aquel sencillo hombre de Galilea. Si bien
había otros famosos sanadores y milagreros en aquel tiempo en Tierra Santa, la
forma en que Jesús obraba sus milagros, estoy seguro, era totalmente diferente.
Al ser tocados por Jesús, el hombre o la mujer en quien se realizaba el milagro
no solamente era curado en su condición física, sino que también se renovaba su
condición social, sus derechos religiosos y civiles, su autoestima… No se
trataba de sanar por sanar.
La sacralidad y la integridad del cuerpo humano como hermosa creación de
Dios, es defendida por el Maestro nazareno hasta las últimas consecuencias. De
ahí que frecuentemente utilizara los términos salvación y sanidad
indistintamente, pues para él todo lo que contribuya al bienestar de los seres
humanos y la comunidad, es también una prioridad para Dios en su vocación
salvífica y para la plenitud de su reinado.
Hoy en día no podemos perder de vista esta perspectiva de Jesús, y debemos
obrar de tal manera que nuestras acciones estén marcadas por la integralidad.
Que todo cuanto hagamos tenga en cuenta la dignidad total del ser humano. De
esta manera nos estaremos acercando a la nueva propuesta de ser seres humanos
que Dios nos enseñó a través de su hijo Jesús de Nazaret.
Oración: Dios bueno, impártenos sanidad integral. Seremos dignos seguidores de tu
luz. Amén.
