Waters of Blessing

Ezekiel 47: 1-12

The book of Ezekiel is truly unique because the writer is both prophet and priest, a unique combination in the Scriptures. The text gives us several unforgettable passages, among which is the one we read today. It is a beautiful vision of waters which flow from the temple and in whose wake life springs up.

Today, for us as Christians, this vision of Ezekiel gives us inspiration in the midst of so many challenges which lie before us. Although the situation that the prophet endured was not the most advantageous or pleasant because he suffered longing for his homeland, he was nevertheless able to be a channel of hope for the whole community in exile. He is guided by God in a message of courage that surely strengthened those who asked why God had allowed them to be torn away from their land. And what image does one use to create such an effect? That of healing waters. Today let’s be those waters that heal, that bear good fruit, that make life spring forth in the midst of our daily exiles.

Prayer: God, we give you thanks for your creation and because through it we recognize your greatness and your power. May we be like healing waters that wherever we go we bring healing and hope both to people and to all creation. Amen.

¡Todo lo que entre en este río vivirá!

Este libro de Ezequiel es verdaderamente singular pues quien lo escribe es profeta y sacerdote, una combinación única en las Escrituras. El texto nos regala varios pasajes inolvidables, entre los que se encuentra el que leemos hoy. Es una hermosa visión de aguas que salen del templo y a su paso van haciendo brotar la vida.

Hoy para nosotros como cristianos y cristianas esta visión de Ezequiel nos debe inspirar en medio de tantos retos que tenemos por delante. Si bien la situación que atravesaba el profeta no era la más ventajosa ni placentera, pues sufría por la añoranza del retorno a su tierra, él es capaz de ser canal de esperanza a todo un pueblo en el exilio. Se deja guiar por Dios en un mensaje de aliento que seguramente fortaleció a aquellos que se preguntaban por qué Dios había permitido que les arrancaran de su tierra. Y vaya qué imagen usa para conseguir tal efecto: el de las aguas saludables. Seamos hoy nosotros esas aguas que sanean, que dan buenos frutos, que hacen brotar la vida en medio de nuestros exilios cotidianos.

Oración: Dios, te damos gracias por tu creación y porque a través de ella reconocemos tu grandeza y poder. Que seamos como las aguas saludables, que por dondequiera que pasemos llevemos  bienestar y esperanza, tanto a los seres humanos como a toda tu creación. Amén.
