IN THE SAME SPIRIT

PHILIPPIANS 1:27-30

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come to see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the Gospel.

Philippians 1:27

By a meeting, we mean the gathering of various individuals in the same place. But union or unity needs to be more about equality of objective and concurrence of will. In the sanctuary, and at its regular hours of worship or Bible studies, the members of the local church should gather; but physically speaking, whether it’s together or separately, we must always remain united in the same spirit.

Partisan divisions within a congregation are not the work of God. There’s no valid reason for the existence of parties in the church of the Lord. There are many reasons for us to remain united in the same spirit. It’s not that we always think alike, rather that even when we have different opinions about diverse issues, unity in the spirit should be maintained, and ties of Christian friendship shouldn’t be broken.

That is the exhortation to which God calls us today through the letter to the Philippians. The Holy Spirit draws us near to one another so that we may be united. Let us be faithful to this objective.

Prayer:  Lord, today we ask that you help us, so that as your people we may continue united in spirit and in the same objective: thanking you, serving you, and giving testimony of you. Amen.

EN UN MISMO ESPÍRITU

FILIPENSES 1:27-30

Solamente que os comportéis como es digno del evangelio de Cristo, para que o sea que vaya a veros, o que esté ausente,

oiga de vosotros que estáis firmes en un mismo espíritu,

combatiendo unánimes por la fe del evangelio.

Llamamos reunión a la concurrencia de varios individuos en un mismo sitio. Pero unión o unidad tiene que ver más con igualdad de propósito y acercamiento de voluntad. En el templo y a sus horas regulares en los cultos o estudios bíblicos, los miembros de la iglesia local debemos reunirnos; pero sea juntos o separados físicamente hablando, siempre debemos permanecer unidos en un mismo espíritu.

Las divisiones partidistas dentro de una congregación no son obra de Dios. No hay razón válida para que existan partidos en la Iglesia del Señor. Hay muchas razones para que permanezcamos unidos en un mismo espíritu. No es que  todos pensemos siempre igual, sino que aun cuando sobre asuntos diversos tengamos diferentes opiniones, la unidad en el espíritu debe conservarse y los vínculos de la amistad cristiana no deben romperse.

Esa es la exhortación que nos hace Dios hoy, a través de la carta a los filipenses. El Espíritu Santo nos acerca para que estemos unidos, seamos fieles a este propósito.

Oración: Señor, te pedimos hoy que nos ayudes para que como pueblo tuyo sigamos unidos en espíritu y en un mismo propósito: agradarte, servirte y dar testimonio de ti. Amén.
