THE GOOD SAMARITAN

LUKE 10:25-37

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people,
especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (NIV)

Galatians 6:10

We are inspired by the example of compassion that the Good Samaritan showed for that poor man who was attacked by robbers.

Today we witness many expressions of compassion and caring that others offer to those in need.

When disaster strikes anywhere, volunteers from many countries rush to offer aid.

We all know someone who has shown goodness and kindness to their neighbor.

Some people believe that there is no longer anybody who cares about others, but they would be surprised to learn how much time, care, and money many give to help their neighbor. Recently I was surprised to see a video about women in Mexico who prepare food and reach out beside a railroad line to satisfy the hunger and thirst of migrants trying to cross the border on a freight train.

Jesus praised those who offer a glass of water to the thirsty and shelter to the helpless. He said that the fullness of life is giving to a neighbor with no thought of reward. We must recognize the efforts of others and respond to Jesus’ call.

Prayer: God of love, help us to recognize opportunities every day to do good for others. Enable us to extend a helping hand to our neighbor and to the alien in solidarity and in love. Amen.

EL BUEN SAMARITANO

LUCAS 10:25-37

Así que como según tengamos oportunidad, hagamos bien

a todos, y mayormente a los de la familia de la fe.

Gálatas 6:10

Nos inspira el ejemplo de compasión que el buen samaritano mostró por aquel  pobre hombre que fue asaltado por los ladrones.

Hoy día somos testigos de diversas expresiones de compasión y cuidado que otros brindan al necesitado.

Cuando hay desastres en algunos lugares, acuden voluntarios de varios países a prestar su ayuda.

Todos conocemos a alguien que ha manifestado su bondad y generosidad ante la necesidad del prójimo.

Algunos creen que ya no existen personas que se preocupan por los demás, pero se sorprenderían al saber del tiempo, cuidado y dinero que muchos dan para ayudar al prójimo. Hace poco me sorprendió un video que hablaba de mujeres en México que preparan alimentos y extienden sus manos al lado de una línea de ferrocarril para saciar el hambre y la sed de emigrantes que intentan cruzar la frontera a bordo de un tren de carga.

Jesús elogió a los que ofrecían un vaso de agua al sediento y hogar al desamparado. Él dijo que la plenitud de vida es dar al prójimo sin interés propio alguno. Debemos reconocer los esfuerzos de otros y responder al llamado de Jesús.

Oración: Dios de amor, ayúdanos a reconocer las oportunidades diarias de hacer el bien a otros. Permite que tengamos nuestras manos extendidas en solidaridad y amor al prójimo y al extraño. Amén.
