COMMUNION IS LOVE
1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-26
. . . and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,
"This is my body that is for you. Do this in
remembrance of me."
1 Corinthians 11:24
Communion is God’s great act of love for it is the
continuation, the actualization for us of Jesus’ surrender of himself on the
cross. At the same time, it is the great act of fraternal love in which we all
join ourselves to Him as we eat the same bread. Also in Communion we remember
the sacrifice of Jesus which marks out a path in our lives. Moreover, it is the
“community gathered” around the table. We all need to remain in his love, his
strength, his peace, and his joy. We need to stay in obedience to God. Thus, He
and Jesus Christ remain in us forever. His
living water, his bread of life and his Holy Spirit remain in us.
Each time we take communion, let’s take stock of our lives
and our participation in the church and in the community. Let’s renew our vows
of faith and draw near to Jesus and to all humanity with love. Before his
crucifixion, Jesus shared the meal with his disciples and expressed his wish
that we remember that he gave himself for us.
And so that we would not forget, he gave us these visible symbols: the bread
and the cup. And let’s remember that he said: Do this in memory of me.
Today, let’s renew our commitment so that the sacrament of
communion may not be a mere ritual, but more an act of love in which we accept
the sacrifice of Jesus and respond with a witness of service to God and to our neighbor.
Prayer: Lord, help us to live in communion with God every day and to
not forget our commitment to our neighbor. Amen.

1 CORINTIOS

La Comunión es el gran
acto del amor de Dios porque es la continuación, la actualización para nosotros
de la entrega que de sí mismo hizo Jesucristo en la cruz. A la vez, es el gran
acto del amor fraterno en el que todos nos unimos a Él y comemos un mismo pan.
Así, en la Comunión recordamos el sacrificio de Jesús, el cual marca una ruta
en nuestras vidas. Comunión es también “comunidad reunida” alrededor de la
mesa. Todos debemos permanecer en su amor, su fuerza, su paz y su gozo. Debemos
permanecer en obediencia a Dios. De este modo, Él y Jesucristo permanecerán en
nosotros por siempre. Esto significa que su agua viva, su pan de vida y su
Espíritu Santo permanecerán en nosotros.
Cada vez que
comulguemos, hagamos un análisis de nuestras vidas y nuestra participación en
la iglesia, en la comunidad; renovemos nuestros votos de fidelidad y
acerquémonos a Jesucristo y a todos los seres humanos con amor. Antes de su
crucifixión, Jesucristo compartió la cena con sus discípulos y expresó su deseo
de que recordaran que Él se dio por nosotros y para que no lo olvidemos nos
dejó estos símbolos visibles: el pan y la copa. Y recordemos que dijo: Haced esto en memoria de mí.
Renovemos hoy nuestro
compromiso para que nuestro sacramento de comunión no sea un rito más, sino un
acto de amor en el que aceptamos el sacrificio de Jesús y respondemos con un
testimonio de servicio a Dios y al prójimo.
Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a vivir la comunión con Dios
cada día y a no olvidar nuestro compromiso con el prójimo. Amén.
