HEAVENLY CITIZENS

Philippians 3:17-21

But our citizenship is in heaven,

 and we eagerly await a Savior from there,

the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Philippians 3:20

Have you thrown a stone into the sea or a lake when it’s calm? Upon falling, the small object forms small circles which little by little go on multiplying and enlarging.

Sometimes we imagine that we’re insignificant, and that our influence is very meager in the world in which we live.  But if we carefully examine our surroundings we see that we leave deeper effects and marks than we think.  Children are greatly influenced by us. They often imitate our behavior. Although we don’t realize it, the world is likewise watching our lives, actions, attitudes, responses and behavior. Paul tells the Philippians to take notice of the Roman colonists. The Romans, without forgetting their citizenship, were trying to maintain their identity amid a foreign position that awaited the emperor’s visit.  

As Christians we shouldn’t forget our identity as sons and daughters of God, and followers of Christ. That is the citizenship of heaven of which the Apostle Paul speaks to us. May everything we do be a devotion of love and fidelity to God. Let’s be consistent with our Christian identity.

Prayer:  We ask, Lord, that our sphere of influence show that we truly are your sons and daughters. Amen.

CIUDADANOS DEL CIELO

FILIPENSES 3:17-21

Mas nuestra ciudadanía está en los cielos,

de donde también esperamos al Salvador, al Señor Jesucristo.

¿Ha tirado una piedra en el mar o en un lago cuando está en calma? El pequeño objeto al caer forma círculos pequeños que poco a poco se van multiplicando y agrandando.

Algunas veces nos imaginamos que somos insignificantes y que nuestra influencia es muy poca en el mundo en que vivimos, pero si examinamos cuidadosamente a nuestro alrededor, vemos que dejamos hondas o marcas más profundas de lo que pensamos. Los niños y las niñas reciben una gran influencia de nosotros. Ellos muchas veces imitan nuestros comportamientos.

Asimismo, el mundo está mirando constantemente nuestras vidas, acciones, actitudes, respuestas y comportamiento aunque no nos demos cuenta. Pablo le dice a los filipenses que se fijen en los colonos romanos. Los romanos, sin olvidarse de su ciudadanía, trataban de mantener su identidad en medio de una posición extranjera que esperaba la visita del emperador.

Los cristianos no debemos olvidar nuestra identidad como hijos e hijas de Dios y seguidores de Cristo. Esa es la ciudadanía de los cielos de la  que nos habla el apóstol Pablo.

Que todo lo que hagamos sea una honda expansiva de amor y fidelidad a Dios. Seamos consecuentes con nuestra identidad cristiana.

Oración: Te pedimos Señor, que nuestras hondas de influencia muestren que somos verdaderamente tus hijos e hijas. Amén.
