IMPATIENCE

LUKE 24:13-35

We had hoped he was the one to redeem Israel.

All these things happened three days ago.

Luke 24:21 (CEB)

Oh, the impatience of human beings!  We always want everything to go according to our time frame.  We want everything adjusted to our parameters, our reasoning, our way of thinking. And God and his plans? In the same way that the followers of Jesus wanted things to go according to their needs, we also want a magic solution to our concerns. 

We have not learned that God has his own timing.  We also are tempted to want things to be immediate and so at times we resort to cups of water, lighting candles, holy cards or whatever element helps us to avoid making a change now and into the future.  We put more confidence and faith in these elements than in trusting in God.  We hope in them and not in God, the miracle with the law of the least effort and no commitment. 

We should not forget the preaching of John the Baptist, who said that it was necessary to pave the way to make the miracle of salvation possible.  Let us then pave the way with patience, waiting always for God’s timing.

Prayer:  Lord, heal us from the impatience which harms our spiritual life.  Amen.

LA IMPACIENCIA

LUCAS 24:13-35

Nosotros esperábamos que él sería el libertador de Israel;

pero a todo esto van tres días que sucedieron estas cosas

Lucas 24:21

¡Ay, la impaciencia de los humanos! Siempre queremos que todo suceda según nuestros tiempos. Todo lo queremos ajustar a nuestros parámetros, a nuestra razón, a nuestra manera de pensar. ¿Y Dios y sus planes? Asimismo, como los seguidores de Jesús querían que las cosas sucedieron según sus necesidades, nosotros queremos como ellos la solución mágica a nuestras inquietudes.

Nosotros aún no hemos aprendido que Dios tiene sus propios tiempos. También estamos tentados a que las cosas sean inmediatas y para esto a veces recurrimos a vasitos de agua, velas encendidas, estampitas o cualquier elemento que nos evite poner desde nosotros mismos el cambio en este presente y con proyección de futuro. Ponemos más confianza y fe en estos elementos, en lugar de confiar en Dios. Esperamos de ellos y no de Dios, el milagro con la ley del menor esfuerzo y cero compromisos.

No debemos olvidar la predicación de Juan el Bautista que decía que era necesario allanar el camino para hacer posible el milagro de la salvación. Allanemos pues, el camino con paciencia esperando siempre el tiempo de Dios.

Oración: Cúranos Señor, de la impaciencia que tanto nos hace daño en nuestra vida espiritual. Amén.
