WITH SPECIAL DILIGENCE

HEBREWS 2:1-10

We must pay the most careful attention, therefore,

to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. (NIV)

If we look up the word “diligence” in the dictionary we’ll see that it means: promptitude, agility, a sense of hurry.

The Word of God makes constant references to the determined attitudes we should have as Christians. Diligence is often mentioned among those attitudes, above all by the apostle Paul when he attempts to describe the characteristics of a true Christian. Proverbs announces to us that: but the precious [substance] of man is to be diligent, and this to be should be administered with responsibility, because what we have heard, seen, and what we have lived is so great and profound that we cannot remain silent.

Paul tells us in Romans 12 to be diligent and not lazy, and he says it to us in the context of that which can be considered Christian duty. But diligence is not only promptitude, agility, a sense of hurry, it also implies - according to the dictionary: care in the execution of a work. In attending to the things of God, it’s necessary to apply diligence; that we apply diligence in being able to disseminate what God has worked in our lives; that we take special care that our lives reflect that divine message, a life of service to one’s neighbor following in Jesus’s steps.

Por tanto, es necesario que con más diligencia atendamos

a las cosas que hemos oído…

Hebreos 2:1

Si buscamos la palabra diligencia en el diccionario veremos que significa: Prontitud, agilidad, prisa.

La Palabra de Dios hace constantes referencias a determinadas actitudes que los cristianos debemos tener. Dentro de esas actitudes la diligencia es muy mencionada, sobre todo por el apóstol Pablo cuando intenta describir las características de un verdadero cristiano. Los proverbios nos anuncian que: haber precioso del hombre es la diligencia, y este haber debe ser administrado con responsabilidad; porque lo que hemos oído, visto y también lo que hemos vivido es tan grande y profundo que no podemos callar.

Nos dice Pablo en Romanos 12 que seamos diligentes, no perezosos y nos lo dice en el marco de lo que pueden considerarse como deberes cristianos. Pero la diligencia no es solo prontitud, agilidad y prisa, también según el diccionario implica: cuidado en la ejecución de una obra. Es menester que pongamos diligencia en atender las cosas de Dios, que pongamos diligencia en poder difundir lo que Dios ha obrado en nuestras vidas, que pongamos especial cuidado en que nuestras vidas reflejen ese mensaje divino, una vida al servicio del prójimo siguiendo los pasos de Jesús.

Oración: Permite Señor, que sea diligente en escucharte y servirte. Por Cristo amado oramos. Amén.
