GOD IS LOVE

1 JOHN 5:1-5

This is how we know that we love the children of God:  

by loving God and carrying out his commands. (NIV)

1 John 5:2

God is love. He gives us constant evidence of that, even when he reprimands us, because he does it so we grow and overcome this world. We have this victory in Jesus by believing in him and learning from his teachings. They call on us to love God with all our heart in what we do and say.

If we say we love God, and then exclude some people, even among our brothers and sisters, something is wrong. Humanly and beyond our natural relationships, it is not always so easy to be loving. But if we try to see our neighbors with Jesus’ eyes, relying on his love rather than ours, we will surprise even ourselves.

God transforms our feelings and our limited and sometimes selfish attitudes and teaches us to live in harmony. One consequence of this change is that even without realizing it, we become more productive and happier. It’s worthwhile to let ourselves be transformed.

Prayer: Lord, you loved us first and you desire good for all your sons and daughters. Forgive us for sometimes being so selective and help us to love as you do. Amen.

DIOS ES AMOR

1 JUAN 5:1-5

Cuando amamos a Dios y hacemos lo que él manda,

sabemos que amamos también a los hijos de Dios.

1 Juan 5:2

Dios es amor. Continuamente nos da muestras de ello, aun cuando nos reprende, ya que lo hace a fin de que crezcamos y tengamos victoria sobre este mundo. Esta victoria la encontramos en Jesús al creer en Él y aprender de sus enseñanzas. Estas implican amar a Dios con todo nuestro corazón en lo que hacemos y decimos.

Si decimos que amamos a Dios y luego hacemos acepción de personas, aun entre nuestros hermanos, algo no funciona. Humanamente y más allá de nuestras afinidades naturales, no siempre resulta tan fácil. Pero si tratamos de ver a nuestro prójimo con los ojos de Jesús, orientándonos en su amor antes que en el nuestro, nos sorprenderemos aun de nosotros mismos.

Dios transforma nuestros sentimientos y actitudes limitadas y a veces egoístas y nos enseña a vivir en armonía. Además, una de las consecuencias de este cambio es que, sin darnos cuenta, nos volvemos más productivos y alegres. Vale la pena dejarnos transformar.

Oración: Señor, tú nos has amado primero y quieres el bien de todos tus hijos e hijas. Perdónanos por pretender ser tan selectivos a veces y ayúdanos a amar como tú lo haces. Amén.
