ARE YOU HUNGRY?

Matthew 14:15-21

“…Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke the loaves…”

            In our world today, physical hunger is very real. It is estimated that there are currently millions of people in the world fighting food insecurity. But a different kind of hunger is even more common: spiritual emptiness and insecurity. It extends from the poor to the rich, and from young to old. Of course, accurate statistics on spiritual hunger are impossible to determine. However,  it is safe to assume that the number of spiritually hungry people is much greater than that of the physically hungry.

            In today’s passage, Jesus approaches people who are physically and spiritually hungry. Taking five loaves and two fish, he looks toward heaven and gives thanks. He breaks the loaves  and gives them to the disciples so that they can be distributed among the multitude.  And a great miracle happens! Everyone eats and is satisfied and there is a lot left over.

            God promised that, with the coming of the true Shepherd, iniquity would become a rich pasture where his sheep would be gathered, and fed. Jesus is the Shepherd who provides for all our needs. Come to him; only he can satisfy!

 

Prayer: Father, thanks for satisfying our spiritual hunger through Jesus as you promised. You give us food daily by the Holy Spirit who strengthens us to walk in your ways. Amen.

¿TIENES HAMBRE?

Mateo 14:15-21

            El hambre física es muy real en nuestro mundo de hoy. Se estiman que en la actualidad hay millones de personas en el mundo que luchan contra la inseguridad alimentaria. Pero un tipo diferente de hambre es aún más común: vacío espiritual e inseguridad. Se extiende de los pobres a los ricos, y de los jóvenes a los viejos. Por supuesto, las estadísticas precisas sobre el hambre espiritual son imposibles de determinar. Pero es seguro suponer que la cantidad de personas espiritualmente hambrientas en este mundo es mucho mayor.

            En el pasaje de hoy, Jesús se acerca a las personas que están física y espiritualmente hambrientas. Tomando cinco panes y dos peces, mira hacia el cielo y da gracias. Después de romper los panes, se los da a sus discípulos para que los distribuyan entre la gran multitud. ¡Y el milagro sucede! Todo el mundo come y está satisfecho, y hay muchas sobras.

            Dios prometió que, con la venida del verdadero Pastor, la iniquidad se convertiría en un rico pasto donde sus ovejas serian recogidas y alimentadas. Jesús es el Pastor que provee para todas nuestras necesidades. Ven a él, ¡solo él puede satisfacer!

 

Oración: Padre, gracias por satisfacer nuestra hambre espiritual a travéés de Jesús. Nos das de comer diariamente a medida que tu Espíritu nos da fuerza para andar en tus caminos. Amén.
