I CAN BE USEFUL

2 Corinthians 12:7-10

He said to me, “My grace is enough for you, because power is made perfect in weakness…”

2 Corinthians 12:9a (CEB)

I ask myself what would have become of the church if the first followers, who suffered great persecutions and weaknesses, had said they could not continue forward. We are humans and because of this, we suffer, we get depressed, we are weakened and we believe that we cannot get up, we cannot go on.  But if we don’t experience that, we would not be able to appreciate the power of Christ in us which gets stronger when we are the weakest.  This is an experience of all Christians.  We cannot measure our faith except through an ordeal.

We know that our church is lacking trained staff—many want to give a hand but believe that they cannot do it. All of us can cooperate, both you and I.  Never has a Sunday School teacher asked if he was a certified teacher or a member of the choir if she is a professional singer, although if they were it would be much better.  What is asked of those who hold positions in the church? To carry Christ in their heart as a living testimony.

Let us put aside our excuses and our tiredness.  Christ needs us, the church needs us. In the same way that the first congregations needed the apostles, now the congregation needs us.

Prayer: Christ, I know that you need us. Prepare us to be ready and to respond firmly to your call. Amen.

YO PUEDO SER ÚTIL

2 Corintios 12:7-10

THE RIVER OF GOD

1 John 4:16

And let the one who is thirsty come! Let the one who wishes receive life-giving water as a gift.

Revelation 22:17b (CEB)

One morning I passed by the edge of a river that I have visited since my childhood.  Seeing the water run and listening to its beautiful sound, I realized that this river had never stopped flowing, neither by day nor by night, since time immemorial. Then I remembered the passage from Psalm 65:9: The river of God, full of waters…

Brothers and sisters, this is how the grace of God is. Grace waters our lives untiringly with its inexhaustible love.  The river of God never dries up, for God never stops loving us!

The water level of a river rises and falls according to the absence or abundance of rains, but God always remains faithful, God’s love never changes. Thus, whoever we are, regardless of our past, whether we are satiated or thirsty, we can drink from the river of God, believing in God’s love and allowing ourselves to be transformed by its waters.  Remember that Jesus says to us, as to the Samaritan woman: the one who drinks of this water will never thirst again.

Prayer: Thank you, loving God, for your eternal river that never dries up.  Help us to be aware of our thirst for you. May we calm ourselves with your lifegiving water and may our inner selves flow with rivers of living water.  Amen.

EL RÍO DE  DIOS

1 Juan  4:16

THE POTTER AND I

Isaiah 30:14

You shall break them with a rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Psalm 2:9 (NRSV)

One of my favorite hymns is the one that says, “Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Thou art the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after Thy will; While I am waiting, yielded and still.” (English version.) It is a beautiful hymn with inspired words and music. However, when God is breaking us in order to shape us into what he wants, do we feel the same way? Let’s meditate on this beautiful poem:

Praying one day, I said to my Lord:

You are the potter, and I am am the clay

Shape my life as you desire

Do as you will; make me a new being.

He said: you don’t please me. I’m going to break you

And I’m going to transform you into a new glass

But in the process I’m going to make you cry

Because I’m going to make you go through the fire

I want a smile when everything goes wrong

I want a praise instead of your complaint

I want your trust in the storm.

And I want you to also learn to forgive.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a good gift to those around me, to give myself fully, to send myself with an open heart, to make you present in the life of my neighbor and by my being to fill his life with your presence, to ask for forgiveness and to forgive, to help my neighbor, to serve him. Let my prayer be a meeting with you every day. Cleanse me, shape me, by means of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Moldea mi vida  a tu parecer,

Me dijo: No me gustas. Te voy a quebrantar

THE SEASONAL CHRISTIAN

1 Corinthians 15:10

but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. . . .”

2 Corinthians 12:9a (NRSV)

Let’s think about these wise words:

“On our journey toward eternal life it is not surprising that more than once we should “run out of gas,” as if we were running through all the seasons of the year.

“At the beginning of the trip, we run with Spring. In this season everything is so pleasant! Just as the rains hasten the bloom of beautiful flowers, so the springtime Christian is soaked with the Holy Spirit and enjoys a wonderful communion with God.

“Farther on with the arrival of summer, all is lit by the sun, and its warm rays bathe the earth. Then this summertime Christian feels burning in his soul the fire of God which leads him to share the Gospel and to serve the Lord with all his being.

“But the journey continues, and with the arrival of autumn comes a little exhaustion, and with neglect, the believer doesn’t pray as before nor serve God with the same passion, but has changed his spiritual life into a routine. In the same way that the trees lose their withered leaves, this believer is falling into a spiritual stance of forgetting his first love.

“Comes the winter, and by then the fuel is almost all used up. The winter Christian has been stranded on the road. His spiritual life and his life of service have become frozen. This believer knows that Spring will return soon, but Christ will return suddenly, and thus he doesn’t know what season he will be in when that day arrives.

            “Let’s not be seasonal Christians.”

Prayer: Jesus, I believe in you and in all your promises. I love knowing that I walk with my hand in yours and that you don’t let go of me. Amen.

EL CRISTIANO DE ESTACIONES

1 Corintios 15:10
