THE SEASONAL CHRISTIAN

1 Corinthians 15:10

but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. . . .”

2 Corinthians 12:9a (NRSV)

            Let’s think about these wise words:

            “On our journey toward eternal life it is not surprising that more than once we should “run out of gas,” as if we were running through all the seasons of the year.

            “At the beginning of the trip, we run with Spring. In this season everything is so pleasant! Just as the rains hasten the bloom of beautiful flowers, so the springtime Christian is soaked with the Holy Spirit and enjoys a wonderful communion with God.

            “Farther on with the arrival of summer, all is lit by the sun, and its warm rays bathe the earth. Then this summertime Christian feels burning in his soul the fire of God which leads him to share the Gospel and to serve the Lord with all his being.

            “But the journey continues, and with the arrival of autumn comes a little exhaustion, and with neglect, the believer doesn’t pray as before nor serve God with the same passion, but has changed his spiritual life into a routine. In the same way that the trees lose their withered leaves, this believer is falling into a spiritual stance of forgetting his first love.

            “Comes the winter, and by then the fuel is almost all used up. The winter Christian has been stranded on the road. His spiritual life and his life of service have become frozen. This believer knows that Spring will return soon, but Christ will return suddenly, and thus he doesn’t know what season he will be in when that day arrives.

            “Let’s not be seasonal Christians.”

 

Prayer: Jesus, I believe in you and in all your promises. I love knowing that I walk with my hand in yours and that you don’t let go of me. Amen.

EL CRISTIANO DE ESTACIONES

1 Corintios 15:10

Y me ha dicho: Bástate mi gracia, porque mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad……

2 Corintios 12:9a

            Reflexionemos en estas sabias palabras:

            “En nuestro camino hacia la vida eterna, no es de extrañar que más de una vez se nos agote el “combustible”, como si nos topáramos con todas las estaciones del año. Al inicio del viaje nos topamos con la primavera. ¡En esta temporada todo es tan bonito! Así como las lluvias hacen germinar las más hermosas flores, el cristiano de primavera se empapa con el Espííritu Santo y disfruta de una buena comunión con Dios. Más adelante, con la llegada del verano, todo se ilumina con el sol, y sus cálidos rayos bañan la tierra. Entonces este cristiano de verano siente arder en su interior el fuego de Dios que lo lleva a compartir el Evangelio y a servir al Señor con todo su ser. Pero el viaje continúa, y para la llegada del otoño se ha agotado un poco, y con el descuido el creyente ya no ora como antes ni sirve a Dios con la misma pasión, ha convertido su vida espiritual en una rutina, y del mismo modo que los árboles pierden sus hojas marchitas; este creyente va cayendo en un estancamiento espiritual al olvidar su primer amor. Llega el invierno y para entonces el combustible se ha agotado casi por completo. El cristiano de invierno se ha quedado tirado en el camino. Su vida espiritual y su vida de servicio se han congelado. Este creyente sabe que pronto volverá la primavera, pero Cristo volverá de repente, por lo tanto no sabe  en qué estación se encontrará  cuando ese día llegue. No seas un cristiano de estaciones.

 

Oración:  Jesús, creo en ti y en todas tus promesas. Amo saber que camino tomada de tu mano y que no me sueltas. Amén.
