Celebration of El Fuerte Presbyterian Church, Cardenas

I CAN BE USEFUL

2 Corinthians 12:7-10

He said to me, “My grace is enough for you, because power is made perfect in weakness…”

2 Corinthians 12:9a (CEB)

            I ask myself what would have become of the church if the first followers, who suffered great persecutions and weaknesses, had said they could not continue forward. We are humans and because of this, we suffer, we get depressed, we are weakened and we believe that we cannot get up, we cannot go on.  But if we don’t experience that, we would not be able to appreciate the power of Christ in us which gets stronger when we are the weakest.  This is an experience of all Christians.  We cannot measure our faith except through an ordeal. 

            We know that our church is lacking trained staff—many want to give a hand but believe that they cannot do it. All of us can cooperate, both you and I.  Never has a Sunday School teacher asked if he was a certified teacher or a member of the choir if she is a professional singer, although if they were it would be much better.  What is asked of those who hold positions in the church? To carry Christ in their heart as a living testimony.

            Let us put aside our excuses and our tiredness.  Christ needs us, the church needs us. In the same way that the first congregations needed the apostles, now the congregation needs us. 

 

Prayer: Christ, I know that you need us. Prepare us to be ready and to respond firmly to your call. Amen.

YO PUEDO SER ÚTIL

2 Corintios 12:7-10

Y me ha dicho: bástate mi gracia, porque mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad…

2 Corintios 12:9a

            Me pregunto qué hubiera sido de la iglesia si los primeros seguidores, que tantas penalidades y debilidades sufrieron, hubieran dicho que no podían seguir adelante. Somos humanos y por eso sufrimos, nos desesperamos, nos debilitamos y creemos no poder levantarnos, no poder seguir. Pero si no experimentamos esto, no podríamos apreciar el poder de Cristo en nosotros que se hace cada vez más fuerte cuando más débiles somos. Esta es una experiencia de todo cristiano. Nuestra fe no la podemos medir si no es con la prueba dura.

            Sabemos que nuestra iglesia está escasa de personal capacitado, muchos quieren cooperar pero creen no poder hacerlo. Todos  podemos cooperar, usted y yo. Nunca se le ha pedido a un maestro de la escuela dominical que sea un maestro graduado, o a un miembro del coro que sea cantante profesional, aunque si lo fueran sería mucho mejor. ¿Qué se le pide a los que desempeñan cargos en la iglesia? Que llevando a Cristo en su corazón sean un testimonio vivo.

            Dejemos a un lado nuestras excusas y nuestros cansancios. Cristo necesita de nosotros, la iglesia necesita de nosotros . Tanto como necesitaron las primeras congregaciones de aquellos apóstoles, ahora se necesita de nosotros.

 

Oración: Cristo, sé que necesitas de nosotros. Prepáranos para estar listos y responder con firmeza a tu llamado. Amén.
