MONDAY, APRIL 7

MAY I NEVER ABANDON YOU, LORD!

LUKE 4:1-13

“Then Moses said to the people, ‘Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the Lord brought you out of it with a mighty hand.”

Exodus 13:3

I greatly admire Moses’ decision to leave Egypt without fearing the anger of Pharaoh. I have abandoned many things which were not worthwhile, on account of the Lord.  I was happy to leave behind the things that no longer mattered to me.  It is very easy to sacrifice what no longer interests us. But Moses left Egypt for the Lord’s sake when he still found himself surrounded by all of its beauty and charm.

It is difficult to abandon everything when one is surrounded by wealth, popularity and power.  Seeing God in moments such as these is to have true faith. Just as Jesus was able to flee from the proposal made to him by “the Tempter,’ to receive authority over all the kingdoms of the earth, we should be able to abandon our comforts, our places of security and power, in order to listen to and follow the voice of God, in the midst of the tempting voices with which the world entraps us.

Prayer: Lord, I know that you would never forsake me; however, I am not so certain that I am able to give up the things I should abandon.  Father, we ask for the courage to always remain by your side in the face of the temptations of this world. Amen.

SEÑOR ¡QUE NUNCA TE ABANDONE!

LUCAS 4:1-13

“Y Moisés dijo al pueblo: tened memoria de este día (…) pues Jehová os ha sacado de aquí con mano fuerte”

Éxodo 13:3

Admiro mucho la decisión de Moisés, quien abandonó Egipto sin temer la ira del Faraón. Yo he dejado por causa del Señor muchas cosas que no valían la pena. Con gusto dejé cosas que ya no tenían ningún significado  para mí. Es muy fácil sacrificar lo que ya no nos apetece. Pero Moisés dejó a Egipto por causa del Señor cuando todavía se encontraba rodeado por todo su atractivo y encanto.

Es difícil decidir abandonarlo todo cuando se está rodeado de riqueza, popularidad, y poder. Ver a Dios en momentos así, es tener verdadera fe. Así como Jesús fue capaz de alejarse de la propuesta que le hiciera “el tentador”, de aceptar el poder sobre todos los reinos de la tierra, debemos ser capaces de abandonar, nuestras comodidades, espacios de seguridad y de poder para escuchar y seguir la voz de Dios, en medio de las voces tentadoras con que el mundo nos atrapa.

Oración: Señor, sé que tú jamás me abandonarás; en cambio no estoy tan seguro si soy capaz de abandonar lo que debo dejar. Padre, te pedimos valor para siempre estar a tu lado ante las tentaciones de este mundo.  Amén.
