LET US SOW LIFE

MATTHEW 25: 31-46

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might...”

Ecclesiastes 9:10a

“if I knew that the end of the world would arrive the following morning, I would still plant a tree the night before.” I began this meditation with something that Luther wrote that has always confronted me. In a world where people are increasingly apathetic, where the philosophy of “save yourself first if you can” is everywhere, where many people think that it’s not worthwhile or there isn’t time for giving somebody a rose, or planting a garden… this sentence opens a door for us toward the light of Christ. 

The preacher teaches us that all that we have at hand to do must be done with love. Even in the midst of crisis, or war, even at the very end, let us sow life and life in abundance, perhaps not for our own enjoyment, but in order to serve others. This is the invitation that Gabriela Mistral always extends to us when she writes:  “Where there is a tree to plant, plant it…. God, who gives the fruit and light, serves… and has his eyes fixed on our hands and asks us each day: ‘Did you serve today?  Whom?  The tree, your friend, your mother?’”

Prayer: Help me, beloved God, to not lose hope and to serve with all the passion and the courage needed so that I do not allow myself to be defeated by disillusion and apathy.  

SEMBREMOS VIDA

MATEO 25: 31-46

“Todo lo que te venga a mano para hacer

hazlo según tus fuerzas.”

Eclesiastés 9:10a

“Si yo supiera que el fin del mundo había de llegar mañana, todavía plantaría un árbol la noche anterior.” He iniciado esta meditación con un planteamiento de Lutero que siempre  me ha confrontado. En un mundo donde cada vez las personas se muestran más apáticas, donde la filosofía del “sálvese quien pueda”  pretende apoderarse de todos los espacios, donde muchos piensan que no vale la pena o no hay tiempo para regalar una rosa, plantar un jardín...  esta frase nos abre una puerta hacia la luz de Cristo. El predicador nos enseña que todo lo que tenemos a mano para hacer hay que hacerlo con amor. Aún en medio de una crisis, una guerra, aún antes del fin, sembremos vida y vida en abundancia, quizás no para disfrutarlo nosotros, pero para servir a los demás.

Esta es la invitación que también nos hace Gabriela Mistral cuando expresa: “Donde haya un árbol que plantar, plántalo tú… Dios, que da el fruto y la luz, sirve … y tiene sus ojos fijos en nuestras manos y nos pregunta cada día: ¿Serviste hoy? ¿A quién? ¿Al árbol, a tu amigo, a tu madre?

Oración: Ayúdame Dios amado, a no perder la esperanza y servir con toda la pasión y el coraje como para no dejarme vencer por la desilusión y la apatía.
