ROOTS OF LOVE

2 TIMOTHY 1:3-7

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

2 Timothy 1:5

I always identified very strongly with my grandparents, and felt terrible whenever I heard them ask me:  “Why haven’t you come to see me?” They were the centering and gathering point and bridges in many instances, for their sons, daughters, brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces, etc.   And the advice they gave; even if they weren't speaking to you, you would pay attention and something always left an impression in your memory.  We obviously learn many things from our father and mother but today I have been thinking about the grandfathers and grandmothers and I wanted to expand on that thought.

In this letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul acknowledges the legacy of our ancestors, as they are oftentimes bridges that help us to cross over to a life in communion with God.

All our affection and respect goes to our grandmothers and grandfathers for their wisdom, their opportune correction and guidance, their sweet and sacrificial love that gave us the faith to deal with difficult moments and helped us to embrace the gospel.

Prayer:  God, we thank you for grandparents, for their affection and their unconditional love.  Be it in your presence or here among us, they are a treasure, they are roots of love.  

RAÍCES DE AMOR

2 TIMOTEO 1:3-7

“Pues evoco el recuerdo de la fe sincera que tú tienes,

fe que arraigó primero en tu abuela Loida y en tu madre

Eunice, y sé que también ha arraigado en ti.”

2 Timoteo 1:5

Siempre me identifiqué mucho con mis abuelos, me sentía mal cuando les escuchaba preguntarme: “¿por qué no has ido a verme?” En torno a ellos, ellas se movían la unión de hijos, hijas, hermanos y hermanas, primos, sobrinas, etc.  Eran puntos de encuentro, en muchos casos puentes. También los consejos que daban; aunque no estuvieran hablando contigo, prestabas atención y algo quedaba impreso en tu memoria. Obviamente que aprendemos muchas cosas de papá y mamá pero hoy pensé en los abuelos y abuelas y quise quedarme en esa reflexión.

En esta carta a Timoteo, el apóstol Pablo reconoce el legado de nuestros antepasados, ellos son muchas veces esos puentes que nos ayudan a cruzar por la vida en comunión con Dios.

Todo nuestro cariño y respeto para las abuelas y abuelos por su sabiduría, corrección oportuna, amor sacrificado y dulce que afianzó en nosotros la fe en momentos difíciles y nos ayudó a abrazar el evangelio.

Oración: Gracias Dios, por los abuelos, por su cariño y amor incondicional. Ya sea en tu presencia o aquí entre nosotros, ellos son un tesoro, ellos son raíces de amor.
