                                            FOR MONEY DOES NOT ENDURE  

                                                              ACTS 8: 14-22 

                        Then hearing this he was saddened, because he was very rich

María Luisa Léper, owner of a gambling house, a drug trafficker and dealer in the white trade, died not long ago in Luxembourg. Upon dying she left her immense fortune divided in equal parts to the Catholic Church, Protestant churches, Muslim mosques, Buddhist pagodas, and spiritualist centers. Her objective was to assure herself a welcome into whichever kingdom of heaven or hell she may find herself.

Upon hearing this news we couldn't help but think of Simon, the citizen of Samaria who spared no expense to be able to distribute the power of the Holy Spirit to others. We cannot deny that Simon the Sorcerer subsequently decided to follow Jesus, or at least showed the signs of a believer, which of course does not mean that he was.

Those who have no money always aspire to having it, thinking it the answer to their problems. Simon the Sorcerer, a con artist, was a good businessman and ran after money. But what ultimately became of him?

Today there’s a contemporary Simon: it’s he who associates with the church in order to be able to bring his laundry, his problems, and is always willing to give in order to resolve his issues. Today the Apostle’s phrase “May your money perish with you” continues to demand our attention.

                                                                    

Prayer:  God, Lord of all creation, help us to first seek your kingdom. Amen.

HECHOS 8:14-22

Entonces él oyendo esto, se puso triste, porque era muy rico

Lucas 18:23

En Luxemburgo murió hace un tiempo la Sra. María Luisa Léper, dueña de una casa de juegos, traficante de drogas, y comprometida en la trata de blancas. Al morir dejó su inmensa fortuna repartida en partes iguales entre; Iglesia Católica, Templos Protestantes, Mezquitas Musulmanas, Pagodas Budistas y Centros Espirituales. Su propósito era asegurarse una buena acogida en cualquier reino de los cielos o del infierno.  

Claro, que al oír esta noticia no pudimos olvidar a Simón, el ciudadano de Samaria, que no escatimó dinero para poder distribuir el poder del Espíritu Santo entre los demás. No podemos negar que Simón el Mago, posteriormente decidió seguir a Jesús, por lo menos se manifiesta creyente, lo cual no quiere decir que lo fuera.

Siempre el ser humano que no tiene dinero aspira a tenerlo, pensando que con éste lo resuelve todo. Simón, mago embaucador era un buen negociante y corría detrás del dinero. ¿Y al final qué?

Hoy en día existe también el Simón contemporáneo. Es aquel que se asocia con la Iglesia para poder llevar su ropaje; sus problemas y siempre está dispuesto a dar para “resolver”. Hoy también tiene exigencia la frase del Apóstol: “Tu dinero perezca contigo”.

Oración: Dios, Señor de todo lo creado, ayúdanos a buscar primero tu Reino.
