AT WHOSE SERVICE?

Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17

“Lord, to whom can we go, you have the words of eternal life”

John 6:6

Some see retirement as an opportunity to achieve freedom from work; for them work is little more than a punishment. For others retirement is the beginning of a new stage in their life. I wonder: Does retirement exist in Christian life? After how many years as a Christian can I retire?

After Joshua announces that he is now admittedly old, he makes up a sketch of what will continue to be his life in the future: “My house and I will serve the Lord.”

The law of retirement doesn’t exist in Christian service. While there’s a minute of life remaining we need to continue serving our God. Have you ever had the impression that there are brothers in the church who seem as though they were in the process of retiring because they think that they’ve already done enough for the church? Christian service isn’t a punishment when a life of joy is found in the Lord, it’s a privilege, and as such it continues to be so for life.

Prayer:  Lord, you impose nothing; my joy is to serve you all of my days. Amen.

¿A SERVICIO DE QUIÉN?

“Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna”

Algunos miran al retiro como una oportunidad para alcanzar la libertad del trabajo, para ellos el trabajo es poco menos que un castigo. Para otros el retiro es el comienzo de una nueva etapa en su vida. Me pregunto ahora, ¿y en la vida cristiana existe el retiro? ¿A los cuántos años de cristiano puedo retirarme?

Después que Josué hace el anuncio de que ya es viejo, bosqueja la que continuará siendo su vida en el futuro: “Yo y mi casa serviremos al Señor”.

En el servicio cristiano no existe la ley del retiro. Tenemos que continuar sirviendo a nuestro Dios, mientras haya un minuto de vida. ¿No te da la sensación de que a veces hay hermanos en la Iglesia que parecen como si estuvieran en los trámites de retiro porque piensan que ya han hecho bastante por la Iglesia? Cuando existe una vida de gozo en el Señor, el servicio cristiano no es un castigo, sino un privilegio, por lo tanto, se continúa haciendo con gozo para toda la vida.

Oración: Señor, tú no impones nada, mi alegría es servirte todos los días. Amén
