A GOD WHO IS CLOSE BY

Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8

“Do not forget my law,

keep my commandments in your heart”

Proverbs 3:1

Today’s text begins with an invitation: “Hear the statutes and decrees which I am going to teach you… on their compliance will depend whether you enter the land the Lord gives you.” Later, Moses makes a reference that only Israel can be proud of having a God that’s so close, and keeps vigil over you through any circumstance.

A comforting security is stimulated in the souls of the Israelites: the faithful compliance with the law brings God’s blessing or assistance, and with it the respect on the part of all the people, since no other nation has a God such as this who is able to totally support it.

To live the alliance is Israel’s mission; to live it totally faithful to a God who remains close by, despite being unseen and formless. The same happens today; the mission of the church isn’t so much about discussing the resurrection of Jesus as much as to live it, because the resuscitated Christ is made present in humanity in this way.

 Prayer:  Lord, I want to obey your will, to be your worthy son. Amen.

UN DIOS CERCANO

Deuteronomio 4:1-2, 6-8

“No te olvides de mi ley; guarda en tu corazón

mis mandamientos”

Proverbios 3:1

El texto de hoy comienza con una invitación: “Oigan los estatutos y decretos que voy a enseñarles…”, de su cumplimiento dependerá que “entren en la tierra que les da el Señor”. Y más adelante Moisés hace referencia a que solo Israel puede enorgullecerse de tener a un Dios tan cercano, que vela por ellos en cualquier circunstancia.

En el alma de los israelitas se introduce una reconfortante seguridad: el cumplimiento fiel de la ley procura la bendición o ayuda de Dios y con ella el respeto por parte de todos los pueblos; pues no hay otro pueblo que tenga un Dios como éste, capaz de apoyarlo totalmente.

Vivir la alianza es la misión de Israel; vivirla siendo totalmente fiel a un Dios que se muestra cercano, a pesar de que no se le ve ni tiene figura. Hoy sucede lo mismo: la misión de la Iglesia no es tanto comentar la resurrección de Jesús, cuanto vivirla; porque así se hace presente en la humanidad a Cristo resucitado.

Oración: Señor, quiero cumplir tu voluntad para ser digno hijo tuyo. Amén.
