TRUE WEALTH

PSALM 127

Sons are indeed a heritage from the LORD,

the fruit of the womb a reward.

Psalm 127:3

Some years ago I read this statement: “We have retired now, having been married for forty-two years. We have raised four children and have given them an education. Today they are married, and we have ten grandchildren. We have been greatly blessed. No, we are not rich, but money does not kiss us the way a grandchild does.”

These words called to mind the Bible verse that we share today. As the Psalmist recognizes in this text, our children are a heritage from God, a true treasure in our lives. It may be that they choose paths that seem wrong to us, but our duty is to raise them, to respect them and accompany them with our prayers and acts of genuine love.

As parents and grandparents, let us consider ourselves rich and blessed by God. Let us give unending thanks to our creator for the blessed heritage of the children he has entrusted to us. Even if they do not find themselves where we might wish to see them, let us protect this heritage with daily prayer, a loving care and words and deeds that tell them they are special.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for our daughters and sons. Give us strength and wisdom to raise them in your ways and to show them the importance of your kingdom. Amen.

SALMO 127

He aquí, herencia de Jehová son los hijos;

cosa de estima el fruto del vientre

Salmo 127:3

Hace algunos años leí este testimonio: “Nos hemos jubilado ahora, habiendo estado casados 42 años. Hemos criado cuatro hijos y les hemos dado una educación. Están todos casados y tenemos 10 nietos. Hemos sido grandemente bendecidos. No, no somos ricos, pero el dinero no nos da un beso como un nieto lo puede hacer”.

Estas palabras me hicieron recordar el verso bíblico que compartimos hoy. Como reconoce el salmista en este texto, nuestros hijos son herencia de Dios, un verdadero tesoro en nuestras vidas. Puede ser que ellos elijan caminos para nosotros erróneos, pero nuestro deber siempre será educarlos, respetarlos y acompañarlos con nuestras oraciones y acciones de amor genuino.

Como padres y abuelos, considerémonos ricos y bendecidos por Dios. Demos infinitas gracias a nuestro creador por la bendita herencia de los hijos que Él nos ha confiado. Incluso si no se hallan espiritualmente allí donde nosotros quisiéramos verlos, protejamos esta herencia con oración diaria, una solicitud amante y palabras y acciones que les digan que son especiales.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por nuestras hijas e hijos. Danos fortaleza y sabiduría para educarlos en tus caminos y mostrarles los valores de tu reino. Amén.
