THE DOMINO EFFECT
ROMANS 14:13-21

make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle

The greater part of us are familiar with the
entertainment of playing with domino tiles. We stand them up, one next to the
other until a long row of tiles covers the table. One of them falls with a
single touch, and the first strikes the next and so on until they’ve all fallen.
A similar effect is that which can take place
in the relations between God’s sons and daughters. We all influence the lives
of those who live nearby, and our influence can easily make them trip and fall.
The Apostle Paul was profoundly conscious of this when writing to the
Christians of Rome. He pointed out that it was possible for a stronger believer
to make a weaker believer stumble in his faith and be scandalized through
disinterest or lack of love.
As Christians we touch the lives of those who
are in our vicinity. The way we live affects our neighbors, companions, and all
of those whom we relate to. How important it is, therefore, that our actions be
guarded and directed by the Holy Spirit!
Don’t forget: It only takes a single domino
to make the rest of the tiles fall.
Prayer: Lord, make us conscious of the influence we
exercise upon others, and our responsibility in respect to it. Amen.

La mayor parte de nosotros
estamos familiarizados con la diversión de jugar con fichas de dominó. Las
ponemos de pie, una junto a la otra, hasta que una larga hilera de fichas cubre
la mesa. Con un solo toque una de ellas cae, y la primera golpea a la
siguiente, y así continuamente hasta que todas quedan abatidas.
Un efecto similar es el que
puede tener lugar en las relaciones con los hijos e hijas de Dios. Todos
influimos en las vidas de los que viven a nuestro alrededor, y nuestra
influencia puede fácilmente hacerlos tropezar y caer. El apóstol Pablo estaba
profundamente consiente de esto al escribir a los cristianos de Roma. Señaló
por ello que era posible, por falta de interés o de amor, que un creyente más
fuerte hiciera que un creyente más débil tropezara en su fe y quedara
escandalizado. Como cristianos también tocamos la vida de los que están a
nuestro alrededor.
La manera como vivimos afecta a
nuestros vecinos, compañeros y a todos aquellos con los que nos relacionamos.
¡Cuán importante es, por ello, que nuestras acciones sean guardadas y dirigidas
por el Espíritu Santo!
No lo olvide: se necesita
solamente una ficha de dominó para hacer caer a todas las demás.
Oración: Señor,
haznos conscientes de la influencia que ejercemos en los demás y de nuestra
responsabilidad al respecto. Amén.
