REST FOR YOUR SOUL

MATTHEW 11:25-30

“Come to me, all of you who are weary

and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (NIV)

Matthew 11:28

Weariness from the daily struggles we face sometimes does not allow us to claim this promise of rest from Jesus.

These noble words that promise peace speak to our souls. And Jesus continues in verse 29: Take my yoke upon you.

Jesus is not simply calling us to get rid of our burdens, so we can rest. He calls us to put on His yoke instead of bearing our burdens. The yoke sounds like work. He offers us rest for our soul, not inaction. We put on the yoke of Christ and blend our life with that of other Christians to do good for God in the world. The yoke of Jesus is light and easy compared with the yoke and the burden we carry when we decide to go down our own routes. When we follow our own routes without thinking about God or His Word, we find our yoke heavier with every passing day. But when we walk with Christ we discover that His yoke is easy and His burden always has meaning.

Yes, we have to work, but this work is filled with significance and gives meaning to our lives.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for Your goodness. I accept your gift of easing my burden and I also accept Your yoke. Amen.

DESCANSO PARA TU ALMA

 MATEO 11:25-30

Venid a mí todos los que estáis trabajados

y cargados, y yo os hare descansar

Mateo 11:28

El cansancio por las luchas diarias que debemos librar, en ocasiones no nos permite aferrarnos a esta promesa de descanso que nos hace Jesús.

Estas nobles palabras que prometen descanso hablan a nuestra alma. Y Jesús continúa diciendo el versículo 29: Llevad mi yugo.

Jesús no nos llama simplemente a quitarnos nuestras cargas para descansar. Él nos llama a ponernos su yugo en lugar de llevar nuestras cargas. El yugo habla de trabajo. Se nos ofrece descanso para nuestra alma, no inactividad. Nos ponemos el yugo de Cristo y fusionamos nuestra vida con la de otros cristianos para hacer el bien para Dios en el mundo. El yugo de Jesús es fácil y ligero comparado con el yugo y la carga que llevamos cuando decidimos andar por nuestros propios caminos. Cuando andamos en nuestros propios caminos sin pensar en Dios, ni en su Palabra, encontramos que nuestro yugo cada día que pasa se hace más pesado. Pero al caminar con Cristo descubrimos que su yugo es fácil y su carga siempre tiene un propósito.

Sí, hay que trabajar, pero ese trabajo está lleno de significado y llena de sentido nuestras vidas.

Oración: Gracias Jesús, por tu bondad. Acepto el regalo que me haces aliviando mi carga y acepto también tu yugo. Amén.
