MATthew 5:14-16

But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light,

so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done

In August 2017 seven million people witnessed a total eclipse of the sun. We know through the media that in a city in the state of Oregon in the United States, hundreds of people provided with special glasses met to observe the phenomena. When it became like night during full daytime everyone was gripped by the spectacle, and a great silence prevailed. The total absence of light produced a great anxiety in them.

When the first ray of light returned to cross the sky, shouts of jubilation were heard, and they embraced one another. Once again, the light prevailed, and the darkness disappeared.

It happens similarly in our lives. The problems and the difficulties that present themselves produce anxieties and hopelessness; but if we believe in Christ, who is our light, our sense of trust returns, and our faith that God provides for us returns to illuminate our lives. Practice each day the truth of God and our lives will be full of light, such as the way this text expresses.

Prayer: Father, you are the light, may we also be the light so that other people are not lost in darkness and find the way that leads them to you. Amen.

BUSCANDO LA LUZ

MATEO 5: 14-16

Pero el que practica la verdad viene a la luz, para que se ponga de manifiesto que sus obras son hechas de Dios.

En agosto de 2017, millones de personas contemplaron un eclipse total de sol. Conocimos por los medios que, en una ciudad del estado de Oregón, en Estados Unidos, se reunieron cientos de personas provistas de anteojos especiales para observar el fenómeno. Cuando se hizo de noche en pleno día todos estaban sobrecogidos y se hizo un gran silencio. La ausencia total de luz les produjo una gran zozobra. Cuando el primer rayo de luz volvió a surcar el cielo, se oyeron gritos de júbilo y se abrazaron unos a otros. La luz prevaleció de nuevo y desaparecieron las tinieblas.

Así pasa en nuestras vidas. Los problemas, las dificultades que se presentan, nos producen angustias, desesperanzas, pero si confiamos en Cristo que es nuestra luz, volvemos a sentir confianza y fe que Dios nos proporciona y se vuelven a iluminar nuestras vidas. Practiquemos cada día la verdad de Dios y nuestras vidas estarán llenas de luz, tal y como expresa este texto.

Oración: Padre, Tú eres la luz de este, permite que también seamos luz para que otras personas no se pierdan en tinieblas y encuentren el camino que los conduzca a ti. Amén.
