God Lives in Me
Genesis 41:29-38
Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find
anyone else like this–one in whom is the spirit of God?”

I
recently read a book in which God appears to a man who, having lost a son,
loses faith, hope, and all interest in his family and in life. The story made
me think about an idea expressed by the voice of God: “I don’t want you to be
my follower, but rather for you to take me within you.” And that is precisely
what Pharaoh said about Joseph, “a man in whom is the spirit of God.”
Because
of a false accusation, Joseph goes to jail, and in Chapter 39, verse 21 we
read, “But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love; he gave him
favor in the sight of the chief jailer.” Why is it that the people who met
Jacob’s son saw God’s spirit in him? Despite having been sold by his brothers,
having been a slave, and being jailed unjustly, Joseph always trusted that God
had a plan for him. He was obedient, strong in the face of temptation, and
patient before his adversaries. When with all the power that Pharaoh had given
him, he met his brothers again, he took compassion on them and forgave them. He
interceded for his family and his people and brought them to Egypt. He could
only be like that because he carried God’s spirit within him.
And
what about us? Can we say that because of the way we live and act, others can
recognize that we are filled with God’s spirit? Am I calm and patient facing
problems? Do I express sincere humility? Do I show compassion and support the
needs of my neighbor? Am I willing to forgive when I’m hurt?
Reflecting
on these questions can help us in our intention of showing that the Lord is in
us, that it’s not a disguise that we are wearing.
Prayer: Thank you,
Lord, for your love and for the possibility of feeling your presence within us.
Give us strength and perseverance so that by your grace we can show you to
those around us. Amen

Recientemente leí un libro en el que Dios
se presenta ante un hombre que al perder a un hijo, pierde fe, la esperanza y el interés por su familia y su
vida. En el relato me hizo reflexionar
una idea expresada en la voz de Dios: “No
quiero que seas mi seguidor, sino que me lleves dentro de ti” Y eso es precisamente lo que Faraón dijo de
José. “un hombre en quien está el espíritu de Dios”. Por una acusación falsa
José va a parar a la cárcel y en el
versículo 21 leemos: “Pero Jehová estaba con José y le extendió su
misericordia, y le dio gracia en los
ojos del jefe de la cárcel”. ¿Por qué
las personas que se encontraban con el hijo de Jacob veían al Espíritu de Dios
en él? A pesar de haber sido vendido por sus hermanos, haber sido esclavo, de
estar en la cárcel injustamente, José
siempre confió en que su Dios tenía un plan para él. Fue obediente; fuerte ante
las tentaciones; paciente frente a las
adversidades. Cuando, con todo el poder que le había dado Faraón volvió a
encontrarse con sus hermanos, tuvo compasión de ellos y los perdonó. Intercedió
por su familia y su pueblo y los trajo a Egipto. Pudo ser así porque llevaba
muy dentro de sí el Espíritu de Dios.
¿Y nosotros? ¿Podemos decir que por
nuestra forma de ser y actuar, los demás reconocen que estamos llenos del
espíritu de Dios? ¿Soy serena y paciente
ante los problemas, expreso sincera humildad, me muestro compasiva y
solidaria con las necesidades de mi prójimo, estoy dispuesta a perdonar cuando me hieren? Reflexionar en estas preguntas nos pueden
ayudar en el propósito de mostrar que el Señor está en nosotros., que no es un
disfraz lo que llevamos.
Oración: Gracias, Señor, por tu amor y por la posibilidad de sentir tu
presencia en nosotros. Danos la fortaleza y la constancia para que por tu
gracia podamos mostrarte a los que nos rodean. Amén.
