A RIGHTEOUS ANGER

DEUTERONOMY 30

...loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him;

for that means life to you….

Deuteronomy 30:20 (NRSV)

Since God is holy and also is love, he necessarily experiences anger.  His love only seeks the good in his sons and daughters.  His holiness always is raised against sin.  God wants human beings to do what is right and to enjoy the benefits. 

In Biblical texts we can find passages where we recognize that God is really angry, in response to the unfaithfulness of his people or in response to injustice.  Without a doubt, God experiences anger.  This is his logical response to injustice and evil.  It is the same anger that Jesus experienced with the moneychangers in the temple or in reaction to the hypocrisy of the Pharisees who imposed a model of correction and purity on the most vulnerable ones in society. 

This should be our response as well.  Sometimes we are angry with people with whom we have had a conflict.  Our anger should not be directed toward people, but is better directed toward the injustices and negative attitudes that deny God or the abundant life that God offers us.  Our anger should be against the same injustice and evil that make God angry. Our anger should stem from our relationship with God.   

Prayer:  God of love, today I ask you to help me become indignant at injustice and evil.  Guide me in your path of good in every moment.  Amen.

UN ENOJO JUSTO

DEUTERONOMIO  30

...amando a Jehová tu Dios, atendiendo a su voz, y

 siguiéndole a él; porque él es vida para ti….

Deuteronomio 30:20

Puesto que Dios es santo y también es amor, necesariamente experimenta enojo. Su amor sólo busca el bien de sus hijos e hijas. Su santidad se levanta siempre en contra del pecado. Dios desea que los seres humanos hagan lo correcto y disfruten los beneficios.

En los textos bíblicos podemos encontrar pasajes en los que reconocemos que Dios está realmente enojado, ante la infidelidad de su pueblo, o ante la injusticia. Sin dudas, Dios experimenta enojo. Ésta es su respuesta lógica a la injusticia y la maldad. Es el mismo enojo que experimentó Jesús ante los cambistas del templo o ante la hipocresía de los fariseos que imponía un modelo de corrección y pureza a los más vulnerables de la sociedad.

Esta debería ser nuestra respuesta también. En ocasiones experimentamos enojo ante las personas con las que hemos tenido un conflicto. Nuestro enojo no debería ser hacia las personas, sino más bien ante las injusticias y actitudes negativas que niegan a Dios o a la vida abundante que él nos brinda. Debería ser hacia la injusticia y la maldad que hace enojar a Dios. Nuestro enojo debería brotar de nuestra relación con Él.

Oración: Dios de amor, hoy te pido  que me  ayudes a indignarme ante la injusticia y la maldad. Guíame por tu camino de bien en cada momento. Amén.
