“GOD, ANSWER ME”

 PSALM 4

Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You gave me room when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

Psalm 4:1 (NRSV)

            Have you ever felt as if God wasn’t listening to you? We’ve all felt that way at times. David felt that way when, night after night he slept in a cold, dark cave, pursed by Saul’s men. He felt it when his son Absalom turned against him. Several times, David felt abandoned by God. Yet he was defined as a man according to God’s heart.

            Regardless of the degree of our maturity there will be periods when we feel abandoned by God. There will be times in which our faith fluctuates and our strength wanes. That’s fine. It’s normal.

            But David did not abandon his faith. He continued to call out to God, kneeling in worship, he continued seeking God’s presence with his pleas. David knew that God would not hide his face for long, because he was clear about something that we at times forget: God is love. God loves us without condition and without limit, and he is never far from those whom he loves.

            No matter how far away God seems to be, we need to continue talking with Him, continue praying, persisting in pouring out our hearts. Like David, we can know that God will answer in his own time.

Prayer: Beloved Father, thank you for always hearing our prayers. Help us to have faith in you even when you appear distant. Amen.

“DIOS, CONTÉSTAME”

SALMO 4

Responde a mi clamor, Dios mío y defensor mío. Dame alivio

cuando esté angustiado, apiádate de mí y escucha mi oración.

Salmo 4:1

¿Te has sentido alguna vez como si Dios no te estuviera escuchando? Todos lo hemos sentido de vez en cuando. David lo sintió cuando durmió en una fría y dura cueva noche tras noche, cuando lo perseguían los hombres de Saúl. Lo sintió cuando su hijo Absalón se volvió contra él. Una y otra vez David se sintió abandonado por Dios. Con todo, se le definió como un hombre según el corazón de Dios.

Independientemente de nuestro grado de madurez, habrá períodos en los que nos sintamos abandonados por Dios. Habrá momentos en los que nuestra fe fluctúe y nuestra fortaleza decrezca. Está bien. Es normal.

Pero David no abandona su fe. Siguió clamando a Dios, postrándose de rodillas en adoración, siguió buscando la presencia de Dios con sus suplicas. David sabía que Dios no escondería su rostro durante mucho tiempo, porque tenía claro algo que nosotros a veces olvidamos: Dios es amor. Nos ama sin condición y sin límite. Y nunca está lejos de aquellos a los que ama.

Por lejos que Dios parezca estar, necesitamos seguir hablando con Él, continuar orando, persistir derramando nuestro corazón. Podemos saber, como David, que Dios contestará a su tiempo.

Oración: Amado Padre, gracias por escuchar siempre nuestras oraciones. Ayúdanos a confiar en ti incluso cuando pareces distante. Amén.
