IT’S BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE

MATTHEW 7:11

In the Holy Land there are two lakes fed by the same river, the river Jordan. The first is located some kilometers’ distance from the other; but both possess characteristics surprisingly different.  One is Lake Genesaret, also known as the Sea of Galilee; the other is the so-called Dead Sea. The first is blue, full of life and contrasts. The second is a briny, dense, and lifeless lagoon where the water entering the lake stagnates.

Given that they’re fed by the same river, what is it that makes the two lakes so different?  Simple. Lake Genesaret generously passes on what it receives; once arrived, its waters immediately flow out to remediate the drought in the fields. It quenches the thirst of human beings and the animals. It’s an altruistic water. The water of the Dead Sea stagnates; it lulls, it’s briny, it kills. It’s a stagnant, selfish and useless water.

The same happens to us. Those who live giving themselves generously to others, live and promote life. People who selfishly receive, hoard, and don’t give are like stagnant water that kills. The less we share, the more impoverished we become; the more we give, the more we receive. These are the happiest people of our world.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, today I ask that you increase my faith in a way that could also increase my ability to give generously without expecting anything in return. Amen.

La dádiva del hombre le ensancha el camino…

Proverbios 18:16

Hay en Tierra Santa dos lagos alimentados por el mismo río: el río Jordán. Están situados a unos kilómetros de distancia el uno del otro. Pero ambos poseen características asombrosamente distintas. Uno es el Lago de Genesaret conocido también como el Mar de Galilea. El otro es el llamado Mar Muerto. El primero es azul, lleno de vida y de contrastes. El segundo es una laguna salitrosa y densa donde no hay vida y queda estancada el agua que viene del río.

¿Qué es lo que hace tan diferentes a los dos lagos que son alimentados por el mismo río? Sencillo. El Lago Genesaret transmite generosamente lo que recibe. Su agua, una vez llegada allí, parte inmediatamente para remediar la sequía de los campos. Sacia la sed de los seres humanos y los animales. Es un agua altruista. El agua del mar Muerto se estanca, se adormece, es salitrosa, mata. Es agua egoísta, estancada, inútil.

Pasa lo mismo con nosotros. Los que viven dándose a los demás generosamente, viven y hacen vivir. Las personas que egoístamente reciben, guardan, y no dan, son como agua estancada que muere. Cuanto menos repartimos, más pobres nos volvemos; cuanto más damos, más recibimos. Esta es la gente más feliz de nuestro mundo.

Oración: Señor Jesús, te pido en este día que aumentes mi fe de manera que pueda también aumentar mi capacidad de dar generosamente sin esperar nada a cambio. Amén.
