FAITH AND REALITY

LUKE 24: 1-12

The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground,

but the men said to them,

"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen.

            What does faith tell us about our reality? What elements belong to the culture of the community and therefore deserve respect? Which others enter contradiction with Christianity?  Is there anything that better points up the limitations of paganism than the fear of death?

            With his life, Christ brought us life and freedom and thereby frees us from the fear of death. If the joy of our faith is that God loves us, then the view facing death must change radically as Ruiz de la Peña has said: “No father can be indifferent to the death of his child.”

            Let’s be grateful to be able to give good news and good news is always moving and effective. We must bring our great news to the people, the news that God loves us. Let’s preach the love of Jesus Christ and the hope that he brings us. The resurrection well-explained, not as a human right, as might be deduced from Neoplatonist thinking, but as a gift of God, will be the great truth present in our lives. But more than just explained, the resurrection lived daily in our community lets us be the good news to those around us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your life, for your death and resurrection. God of hope, allow us to remain firm in our faith in you, especially in these times. Amen.

LA FE Y LA REALIDAD

LUCAS 24: 1-12

Llenas de miedo, se inclinaron ocultando su rostro; pero ellos les dijeron: “¿Por qué buscan entre los muertos al que vive?”

Lucas 24: 5

¿Qué nos dice la fe respecto a nuestra realidad? ¿Qué elementos pertenecen a la cultura del pueblo y por lo tanto son elementos a respetar? ¿Qué otros aspectos entran en contradicción con el cristianismo? ¿Habrá algo que identifique mejor la limitación del paganismo que el miedo a la muerte?

Cristo nos trajo con su vida la vida y la libertad; y por eso nos libra del miedo a la muerte. Si el goce de nuestra fe es que Dios nos ama, la visión ante la muerte tiene que cambiar radicalmente porque como dijo Ruiz de la Peña: “Ningún padre puede ser indiferente ante la muerte de su hijo”. Alegrémonos por poder dar una buena noticia, y las buenas noticias siempre conmocionan y tienen efecto. Hay que llevarle a la gente nuestra gran noticia, la noticia de que Dios nos ama. Prediquemos el amor de Jesucristo y la esperanza que Él nos trajo. La resurrección bien explicada, no como derecho del ser humano, según podría deducirse de una mentalidad neoplatónica, sino como regalo de Dios, será la gran verdad presente en nuestras vidas. Pero más que explicada, la resurrección vivida cada día en comunidad nos permitirá ser esa buena noticia para los demás.

Oración: Jesús, gracias por tu vida, por tu muerte y resurrección. Permítenos Dios de la esperanza, mantenernos firmes por la fe en ti, especialmente en este tiempo. Amén.
