ACT AS JESUS WOULD

John 10: 31-42

“But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”

John 10:38 (NIV)

How many times have we heard the phrase, “And he calls himself a Christian?” It bothers us a lot, because we know that this condition makes us perfect certain people. But what is really the best way to show the true face of Jesus? It is not about helping people to become popular or to gain their gratitude. Rather, our faith in Jesus motivates us to act and thus show his true face.

The text shows how to demonstrate our relationship with God through our daily actions. To the extent that we are kind, caring, and humane people, and display the values   we learn from Jesus, we will reveal our true relationship with him. The Spirit of God cannot be in us when we do harm. The Spirit of God is life, therefore, our actions must be aimed at preserving life and good relationships. Let us ask God for the strength to distance ourselves from all the evil actions that separate us from him.

Prayer: Jesus, grant that my works may show your face. Amen.

ACTUAR A LA MANERA DE JESÚS

Juan 10: 31-42

… creed por las obras, y así sabréis y conoceréis que el Padre está en mí y yo en el Padre.

¿Cuántas veces escuchamos la frase: “ Y se dice cristiano”? Nos molesta mucho, porque sabemos que esa condición nos convierte en personas perfectas. Pero realmente cuál es la mejor manera de mostrar el verdadero rostro de Jesús. No se trata de ayudar a las personas para hacernos populares o para que nos agradezcan. Más nuestra fe en Jesús nos motiva a obrar y así mostrar su verdadero rostro.

En el texto mediante las acciones cotidianas se muestra la manera de mostrar nuestra relación con Dios. En la medida en que seamos personas amables, solidarias, humanos, y mostremos los valores que aprendemos de Jesús, dejaremos ver nuestra verdadera relación con El.  El Espíritu de Dios no puede estar en nosotros cuando hacemos daño. El Espíritu de Dios es vida, por tanto, nuestras acciones deben estar encaminadas a preservar la vida y las buenas relaciones. Pidamos a Dios la fortaleza necesaria para alejarnos de todas las malas acciones que nos apartan de Él.

Oración: Jesús, permite que mis obras puedan mostrar tu rostro. Amén.

OBEDIENCE

Psalm  104: 4-9

But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight.

Psalm 104:7  (NIV)

The Psalms remind us of the importance of praising and thanking God for his goodness, and at the same time, they show us the importance of obedience. Genesis begins by teaching us how God organized chaos and how everything obeyed every command. It's very easy to praise God, but it's difficult to obey him.

We need to always obey God. More importantly, how do we know which is the right path? How do we interpret what God wants for us? It is really not an easy task. We do not have a recipe book, nor someone whispering in our ear what we should do and how to do it; however, we have the example of Jesus, who shows us the clues to follow the right path. So, it would be very helpful to ask ourselves the following question: How would Jesus act in my place? It will be difficult for us, and it was not easy for him either. His actions led him to the most terrible death. But thanks to this, we can enjoy forgiveness and eternal life.

Prayer: Jesus, help us to obey you, and show us the way so that we too can be a blessing in the lives of others. Amen.

OBEDIENCIA

Salmo  104: 4-9

…al increparlas Tú, emprenden la huida, se precipitan al oír tu trueno.

Salmo 104:7

Los Salmos recuerdan la importancia de alabar y agradecer a Dios sus bondades, a su vez nos muestran la importancia de la obediencia. Génesis comienza enseñándonos cómo Dios organizó el caos, y cómo a cada orden todo obedecía. Es muy fácil alabar a Dios, pero resulta difícil obedecerle.

Necesitamos obedecer siempre a Dios. Más cómo: ¿cómo saber cuál es el camino?, ¿Cómo interpretar lo que Dios quiere para mí? Realmente no es tarea fácil. No tenemos un libro de recetas, ni alguien que nos susurre al oído lo que debemos y cómo hacer; sin embargo, tenemos el ejemplo de Jesús, que nos muestra las pistas para seguir el camino correcto. Entonces, nos ayudaría mucho hacernos la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cómo actuaría Jesús en mi lugar? Nos resultará difícil, para él tampoco fue fácil. Sus actos lo llevaron a la muerte más terrible. Pero gracias a ello, podemos disfrutar del perdón y de la vida eterna.

Oración:  Jesús, ayúdanos a obedecerte y muéstranos el camino para que podamos ser también una bendición en la vida de las demás personas. Amén.

FOLLOW JESUS

John 8: 31-42

 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

Many people today claim to be followers of Jesus simply by attending a faith community. We cannot say they are wrong. Truly following Jesus involves more than attending church. It is an act of faith that allows us to see life from a different perspective: not seeing problems as mountains that prevent us from moving forward, but as obstacles that help us grow and face new challenges. When we believe in Jesus, we feel supported in the face of every difficulty and feel the need to help others. We do not see service as an obligation, but as an act of love.

Lent invites us to rethink ourselves; to not falter in the face of difficulties, because we have a God who loves us and frees us from the circumstances that paralyze us. To not give up when reality overwhelms us. God always keeps His promises and is always attentive to our needs.

Prayer: God, grant that we may follow you without hesitation, and help us strengthen our faith, so that we may find freedom. Amen.

SEGUIR A JESÚS

Juan 8: 31-42

Entonces Jesús dijo a los judíos que habían creído en Él. Si ustedes creen en mi palabra serán realmente mis discípulos.

Muchas personas en la actualidad dicen ser seguidoras de Jesús, solo por asistir a una comunidad de fe. No podemos decir que no estén en lo cierto. Más seguir en verdad a Jesús implica más que asistir a una iglesia. Es un acto de fe que nos permite ver la vida desde otra óptica: no ver los problemas como montañas que nos impiden avanzar, sino como obstáculos que nos ayudan a crecer y a plantearnos nuevos retos. Cuando creemos en Jesús, nos sentimos apoyados ante cada dificultad y sentimos la necesidad de ayudar a otras personas. No vemos el servicio como una obligación, sino como un acto de amor. 

La cuaresma nos invita a repensarnos. A no vacilar ante las dificultades, porque tenemos un Dios que nos ama y nos libera de las circunstancias que nos paralizan. A no rendirnos ante la realidad nos supera. Dios cumple siempre sus promesas y siempre está pendiente de nuestras necesidades.

Oración:  Dios, permite que podamos seguirte sin vacilaciones, y ayúdanos a fortalecer nuestra fe, para poder encontrar la verdadera libertad.  Amén.

BE CONSISTENT

John 8: 31-42

I declare what I have seen in the Father’s presence; as for you, you should do what you have heard from the Father.

John 8:38 (NRSV)

When we hear the Word of God, it implies an action that demands changes in our lives. It is the Gospel when we practice the love we accept and profess.

God calls us to love one another. If we want to be consistent with that love, we must truly accept and respect one another, and walk together in that same spirit.

Jesus’ life was constantly in relationship with the Father. So too, our lives must be consistent with what we have learned.

May our practices of service and love speak louder than our words.

May we demonstrate everything we have learned in our life of faith.

May we embrace the teachings of the Bible with devotion.

May we be faithful to it at all times and in all places.

May we practice justice responsibly.

May we not seek our own benefit above others.

May we learn to care for and respect our relationships.

May we feel the pain and needs of those around us as our own.

Prayer: Lord, we want to always be connected to you in Word and action, guided by your love. Amen.

SER COHERENTES

Juan 8: 31-42

Yo hablo de lo que he visto en presencia del Padre; así también ustedes, hagan lo que del Padre han escuchado.

Juan 8:12b

La Palabra de Dios escuchada, implica un accionar que demanda cambios en nuestras vidas. Es evangelio cuando practicamos ese amor que aceptamos y profesamos.

Dios nos llama a amarnos, si queremos ser coherentes con ese amor debemos verdaderamente aceptarnos, respetarnos y caminar juntas y juntos en ese mismo sentir.

La vida de Jesús estuvo constantemente en relación con el Padre.  Así también nuestra vida debe estar en coherencia con lo que hemos aprendido.

Que nuestras prácticas de servicio y amor hablen más que nuestro discurso.

Que mostremos todo lo aprendido en nuestra vida de fe.

Que abracemos con devoción las enseñanzas de la Biblia.

Que seamos fieles a ella en todo tiempo y lugar.

Que practiquemos la justica con responsabilidad.

Que no busquemos el beneficio propio por encima de los demás.

Que aprendamos a cuidar y respetar nuestras relaciones.

Que sintamos como nuestro, el dolor y las necesidades de quienes están a nuestro alrededor.

Oración: Señor, queremos estar siempre en conexión contigo en Palabra y acción, guiados por tu amor. Amén.
