Let Us Also Adorn the Soul

Luke 3:4-11

Even tax collectors came to be baptized, and they asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?”

This is a time when, suddenly, it seems as if the stress stops, the anguish freezes, and we prepare to receive joy, as if everything else did not exist. We fix up our houses, we adorn our churches and we try to lighten the spirit of the heavy burden that has accompanied us throughout the year. It is right; we need it. In the same way, we need to broaden our souls, enlarge our spirits, prepare the way of the Lord, filling every step with gestures of love, tenderness, and kindness.

May Jesus find us working, reaching out, embracing, encouraging, comforting, and supporting those who, especially in these times, do not have the strength for a smile, for joy.  For each church ornament, let us bring blessing to many homes, recover the laughter of children, provide companionship to those who suffer aloneness, take in those who are abandoned, show mercy to those who need mercy. Let us fill the path with good deeds, and life will multiply.

Prayer: Lord, I want to welcome you by paving the way for those who are going through difficult times. Amen.

Engalanemos también el alma

Lucas 3.4-11

—El que tiene dos camisas debe compartir con el que no tiene ninguna —contestó Juan—, y el que tiene comida debe hacer lo mismo.

Este es un tiempo, que de pronto parece que se detiene el agobio, que se congela la angustia y nos disponemos a recibir la alegría, como si todo lo demás no existiera. Arreglamos nuestras casas, adornamos nuestros templos e intentamos aliviar el espíritu de la carga pesada que nos ha acompañado durante todo el año. Es justo, lo necesitamos. De igual forma, necesitamos ensanchar el alma, engrandecer nuestro espíritu, preparar el camino del Señor, llenando cada paso de gestos de amor, de ternura, de bondad.

Que Jesús nos encuentre, laborando, extendiendo manos, abrazando, dando aliento, reconfortando, sosteniendo a quien, ni siquiera en estos tiempos, tiene fuerzas para la sonrisa, para la alegría. Por cada adorno del templo, llevemos bendición a muchos hogares, recuperemos la risa de los niños, demos compañías a quienes sufren la soledad, cobija a quienes son abandonados, piedad a quienes necesitan misericordia. Llenemos el camino de buenas obras y se multiplicara la vida.

Oración: Señor, quiero recibirte allanando el camino de quienes viven tiempos difíciles. Amén.
