WE ARE NOT ALONE

Exodus 33:11-15

And the Lord said: my presence will go with you, and I will give you rest

Exodus 33:14 (NRSV)

            When we feel alone and abandoned, let’s remember that Jesus is with us. Maybe there are times in life when we walk alone, perhaps without the joy of friends or without being able to enjoy the embrace of our parents. But God promises us His company in every circumstance.

            When we feel sad and bitter, let’s remember that Jesus is our happiness. During our development as people,  we will surely go through difficult times but each time we can enjoy knowing that He directs our steps and keeps us from all danger.

            When we feel tempted and weak, let’s remember that Jesus helps us overcome. His presence in our lives, by means of the Holy Spirit, will give us the necessary energy to affirm our will and not to listen to temptation.

            When we feel dirty from sin, let’s remember that Jesus forgives us and cleanses our hearts. Let’s not try to figure things out on our own nor hide what we’ve done. Let us approach Him daily with repentance and willingness to receive His forgiveness. God assures us that He will cleanse our sins and give us the strength not to commit them again.

            Whatever our experiences and feelings, let’s remember that Jesus wants to guide each stage of our growth, because only He can offer love, peace, and eternal life.

 

Prayer: I give you thanks Lord this day, for being with me and for blessing each step of my walk. Amen.

NO ESTAMOS SOLOS

Exodo 33:11-15

Y él dijo: Mi presencia irá contigo, y te daré descanso

Éxodo 33:14

            Cuando nos sintamos solos y abandonados, recordemos que Jesús está con nosotros. Tal vez haya momentos en la vida en los que caminemos en soledad, quizás sin la alegría de los amigos o sin poder disfrutar del abrazo de nuestros padres. Pero Dios nos promete su compañía en cada circunstancia.

            Cuando nos sintamos tristes y amargados, recordemos que Jesús es nuestra felicidad. Durante nuestro desarrollo como personas seguramente pasaremos tiempos difíciles, pero en cada ocasión podremos disfrutar la alegría de saber que Él dirige nuestros pasos y nos cuida de todo peligro.

            Cuando nos sintamos tentados y sin fuerzas, recordemos que Jesús nos ayuda a vencer. Su presencia en nuestra vida, mediante el Espííritu Santo, nos dará la energía necesaria para afirmar nuestra voluntad y no hacerle caso a la tentación.

            Cuando nos sintamos sucios por el pecado, recordemos que Jesús nos perdona y limpia nuestro corazón. No tratemos de resolver las cosas por nuestra cuenta o esconder lo que hayamos hecho. Acerquémonos a Él diariamente con arrepentimiento y disposición para recibir su perdón. Dios nos asegura que limpiará nuestros pecados y nos dará las fuerzas para no volver a cometerlos.

            Sean cuales fueran nuestras experiencias y sensaciones, recordemos que Jesús desea guiar cada etapa de nuestro crecimiento, porque sólo Él puede ofrecernos amor, paz y vida eterna.

 

Oración: Gracias te doy Señor en este día, por estar conmigo y por bendecir cada paso de mi caminar. Amén.

THE ONLY BRIDGE

1 Timothy 2:3-6

For there is one God; there is one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself being human.

1 Timothy  2:5 (NRSV)

            One of humanity’s greatest inventions is the bridge, that structure that allows connecting towns and cities that would otherwise be separate. There are different sizes, colors, and dimensions. Some cross narrow rivers, others stretch for miles along a bay, and there are also those that serve to cross a road or a large highway. Thousands of cars and pedestrians around the world enjoy the advantages of having bridges that help them move from one place to another, every day.

            We followers of Jesus ought to help people connect with God. There is so much loneliness in the world, so much war, so  much hate and so much separation. God is interested in every human being enjoying life to the fullest. That is why he built a “bridge,”  so that we all had the possibility to relate to Him and not live isolated in selfishness and sin. Jesus died on the cross and rose again so that we could make that decision.

            When we are enlivened to take that step, we experience the love, the forgiveness and peace that changes our life forever. Now is the moment to help others know  that bridge called Jesus.

            Let’s dare to cross the bridge and we will see the difference.

 

Prayer: Today Lord, let Jesus lead me directly to you. Sometimes that bridge is difficult to cross, but it is the only effective one. Amen.

EL UNICO PUENTE

1 Timoteo 2:3-6

Porque hay un solo Dios, y un solo mediador entre Dios y los hombres, Jesucristo hombre

1 Timoteo  2:5

            Uno de los mayores inventos de la humanidad es el puente, esa estructura que permite conectar pueblos y ciudades que de otra manera estarían separados. Los hay de diferentes tamaños, colores y medidas. Algunos cruzan ríos angostos, otros se extienden por kilómetros a lo largo de una bahía, y también están aquellos que sirven para cruzar una carretera o una gran autopista. Miles de automóviles y peatones en todo el mundo disfrutan cada día las ventajas de tener puentes que los ayuden a trasladarse de un lado a otro.

            Los seguidores de Jesús debemos ayudar a la gente a conectarse con Dios. Hay tanta soledad en el mundo, tantas guerras, tanto odio y tanta separación. Dios está interesado en que cada ser humano disfrute la vida al máximo. Por eso construyó un “puente” para que todos tuviéramos la posibilidad de relacionarnos con Él y no vivamos aislados en el egoísmo y el pecado. Jesús murió en la cruz y resucitó para que nosotros pudiéramos tomar esa decisión.

            Cuando nos animamos a dar ese paso, experimentamos el amor, el perdón y la paz que cambian nuestra vida para siempre. Ahora es el momento de ayudar a otros para que conozcan ese puente que se llama Jesús.

            Atrevámonos a cruzar el puente y veremos la diferencia.

 

Oración: Permite hoy, Señor, que Jesús me conduzca directamente a ti. A veces es difícil atravesar ese puente, pero es el único efectivo. Amén.

Anniversary of the Gethsemane Church (Güines)

THE FIRE OF GOD

Exodus 13:17-22

The Lord went in front of them in a pillar of cloud by day, to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

Exodus 13:21-22 (NRSV)

            During the years when the people of Israel went around through the wilderness, they enjoyed the help of God, who was always by their side. Every day, when the sun rose in all its glory and the heat became unbearable, a cloud covered the people so that they would not suffer any damage. At night, when the moon and stars decorated the sky with their brightness, a column of fire surrounded the camp so that no one would suffer the extreme cold of the desert. Fire gave the Israelites three important benefits: light, warmth, and companionship.

            The presence of God in the life of each one of the followers of Jesus is the same as that column of fire. It helps us in three ways:

-It lights our life with the light of Biblical teaching, helping us in our life to make the right decisions,

-Protects our being so that we do not get discouraged nor become slaves of what displeases God,

-Accompanies each one of our steps so that we do not stumble, nor fall into temptation and we can enjoy his love every moment.

            During the years God allows us to live, we will enjoy His provision and companionship. He will always be by our side.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father and Lord, I give infinite thanks for your constant presence in my life  and for caring for me every day. Amen

Aniversario de la Iglesia Getsemaní (Güines)

EL FUEGO DE DIOS

Exodo 13:17-22

Y Jehová iba delante de ellos de día en una columna de nube para guiarlos por el camino, y de noche en una columna de fuego para alumbrarles, a fin de que anduviesen de día y de noche. Nunca se apartó de delante del pueblo

Éxodo 13:21-22

            Durante los años en que el pueblo de Israel dio vueltas por el desierto, gozó de la ayuda de Dios, quien siempre estuvo a su lado. Cada día, cuando el sol salía con todo su esplendor y el calor se hacía insoportable, una nube cubría al pueblo para que no sufriera daño alguno. Por la noche, cuando la luna y las estrellas decoraban el cielo con su brillo, una columna de fuego rodeaba el campamento para que nadie padeciera el frío extremo del desierto. El fuego les daba a los israelitas tres beneficios importantes: luz, calor y compañía.

            La presencia de Dios en la vida de cada uno de los seguidores  de Jesús es igual a esa columna de fuego. Nos ayuda de tres maneras:

-Ilumina  nuestra vida con la luz de la enseñanza bíblica, ayudándonos en nuestra vida a tomar decisiones correctas,

-Protege nuestro ser para que no nos desanimemos ni volvamos a ser esclavos de lo que desagrada a Dios,

-Acompaña cada uno de nuestros pasos para que no tropecemos, no caigamos en la tentación y podamos disfrutar de su amor en cada momento.

            Durante los años que Dios nos permita vivir, disfrutaremos de su provisión y compañía. Él siempre estará a nuestro lado.

 

Oración: Amado Padre y Señor, te doy infinitas gracias por tu presencia constante en mi vida y por cuidar de mí todos los días. Amén.

JESUS CHRIST IS ALWAYS THE SAME

Hebrews 13:6-21

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 (NRSV)

            Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same, although some try to distort his image, despite people who fail all the time, although many want to hide, deny, silence, disguise, and use.

            He is the same one who denounced the legalists of his time, dared to confront the powerful, touched the untouchables, dialogued with the marginalized, disrupted the value system of his social reality and showed us the way forward.

            He is the same who gave life to many physically dead and thousands of spiritually dead. He is the same man who walked the dusty streets of Galilee two thousand years ago and today walks by our side. He is the same one who died on the cross  for our sins and on the third day rose from the dead. He is the same one who did not hesitate to forgive those who offended him. He is the same one who has the best news for our life: that God, in his great love, sent him so that we would have the opportunity to know him as God and savior, receive his love and forgiveness and enjoy the gift of eternal life. 

            Our life can change if we dare to believe in Jesus. Our reality may be different if we dare to let Him direct our lives.

 

Prayer: Thank you, my good God, for giving us your Son so that we  can be free. In the name of Christ. Amen.

JESUCRISTO ES EL MISMO SIEMPRE

Hebreos 13:6-21

Jesucristo es el mismo ayer, hoy, y por los siglos

Hebreos 13:8

            ¡Jesucristo nunca cambia! Es el mismo, aunque algunos intenten distorsionar su imagen, a pesar de la gente que falla todo el tiempo, aunque muchos lo quieran esconder, negar, callar, disfrazar y utilizar.

            Es el mismo que denunció a los legalistas de su época, se animó a confrontar a los poderosos, tocó a los intocables, dialogó con los marginados, trastocó el sistema de valores de su realidad social y nos mostró el camino a seguir.

            Es el mismo que les dio vida a muchos muertos físicos, y también a miles de muertos espirituales. El mismo que hace dos mil años transitó  las polvorientas calles de Galilea y hoy también camina a nuestro lado. El mismo que murió en la cruz por nuestros pecados y al tercer día resucitó de entre los muertos. Es el mismo que no dudó en perdonar a quienes lo ofendieron. Es el mismo que tiene las mejores noticias para nuestra vida: que Dios, en su gran amor, lo envió a Él para que tuviéramos oportunidad de conocerlo como Dios y Salvador, recibir su amor y perdón, y entonces disfrutar del regalo de la vida eterna.

            Nuestra vida puede cambiar si nos atrevemos a creer en Jesús. Nuestra realidad puede ser distinta si nos animamos a dejar que Él dirija nuestra vida.

 

Oración: Gracias mi buen Dios, por regalarnos a tu Hijo para que pudiéramos ser libres. En el nombre de Cristo, amén.

PUTTING IN ITS PLACE

James 2:20-26

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.

James 2:23(NIV)

            Years ago, Abraham had heard God’s call commanding him to leave his city and go to a place that God Himself would show him. So clear had been the instruction that it did not take long for him to embark on the journey. After several years of walking, obeying, and moving forward, God allowed Abraham and his wife Sarah to have a son; quite a miracle, because they were two old people, and they would never have been able to have a baby. When Isaac was born, everything was joy and celebration. The promise had been kept and the life of that marriage had changed forever. However, God asked Abraham to  do something very strange: sacrifice the little boy.

            It is interesting to read how this heartbroken father set out to obey the divine commission. But when the time came, God stopped Abraham’s hand and reconfirmed the promise that he had made to him before; Isaac would be the first of thousands of people who would form a great nation.

            When we follow Jesus and try to obey Him every day, we are likely at some point to experience situations that will test whether our faith is true or not. Perhaps at first, we do not understand why this or that happens, but we will understand it in due time if we maintain an attitude of obedience, trust, and search for God.

 

Prayer: Lord, open my ears to listen to you and know what you want me to do in every step I take. Help me to accept your will. Amen

PONIENDOSE EN SU LUGAR

Santiago 2:20-26

Y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue contado por justicia

            Años atrás, Abraham había escuchado el llamado de Dios que le ordenaba salir de su ciudad y dirigirse a un lugar que Dios mismo le mostraría. Tan clara había sido la instrucción que no tardó mucho en emprender el viaje. Luego de varios años de caminar, obedecer y seguir hacia adelante, Dios permitió que Abraham y su esposa Sara tuvieran un hijo; todo un milagro, pues se trataba de dos viejitos y ellos nunca hubieran podido tener un bebé. Cuando nació Isaac, todo era alegría y celebración. La promesa se había cumplido y la vida de aquel matrimonio habíía cambiado para siempre. Sin embargo, Dios le pidió a Abraham que hiciera algo muy extraño: sacrificar al pequeño. Es interesante leer cómo este padre acongojado se dispuso a obedecer el encargo divino. Pero cuando llegó el momento, Dios detuvo la mano de Abraham y volvió a confirmarle la promesa que le había hecho antes: Isaac sería la primera de miles de personas que formarían una gran nación.

            Cuando seguimos a Jesús y tratamos de obedecerlo cada día, es probable que en algún momento experimentemos situaciones que pondrán a prueba si nuestra fe es verdadera o no. Quizás al principio no entendemos  porqué ocurre esto o aquello, pero lo comprenderemos a su debido tiempo si mantenemos una actitud de obediencia, confianza y búsqueda de Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, abre mis oídos para escucharte y saber qué tu quieres que haga yo en cada paso que doy. Ayúdame a aceptar tu voluntad. Amén.

THE SON OF GOD

John 1:1-18

But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.

John 1:12 (NRSV)

            Matthew and Luke begin their Gospels with the earthly birth of Jesus, but John goes further back, to the true origin of Jesus’ life in time, in the eternal existence of God.

            That child of Bethlehem, who in the text is called the Word, existed before Christmas, before the creation of the world. That is why today we are celebrating something more than the birth of a child, we are remembering that moving and great act of God of setting aside what was proper to his divine condition, to become human and share our own existence. Jesus came into the world not only as the Son of God, but He allows us to reach an unthinkable condition: He granted us to be children of God. We are made children of God by the Father’s own Son, if  we believe in his name, that is, in his divine personality. He came so that, through Him, we would know the Father and learn to do His will.

            Today, when we celebrate Christmas, we also remember all of Christ’s work to make us known to the Father, and we can think about how we have fulfilled the responsibility of continuing his work. Can we call ourselves Children of God? What are we doing to spread the light of Christ in this world of darkness? The mystery of the incarnation is updated every day when we can live an incarnate faith, capable of responding to the needs and aspirations of humanity.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, let us with our faith and witness be your daughters and sons forever. Amen.

Enero 2, domingo

EL HIJO DE DIOS

Juan 1:1-18

Pero a quienes lo recibieron y creyeron en El, les concedió el privilegio de llegar a ser hijos de Dios.

Juan 1:12

            Mateo y Lucas comienzan su Evangelio con el nacimiento terreno de Jesús, pero Juan va más atrás, al verdadero origen de la vida de Jesús en el tiempo, en la existencia eterna de Dios.

            Ese niño de Belén, que en el texto lo llaman Palabra, existía antes de la navidad, antes de la creación del mundo. Es por eso que hoy estamos festejando algo más que el nacimiento de un niño, estamos recordando ese acto conmovedor y grandioso de Dios de hacer a un lado aquello que le era propio a su condición divina, para hacerse humano y compartir nuestra propia existencia. Jesús vino al mundo no solo como Hijo de Dios, sino que nos permite alcanzar una condición impensable: nos concedió ser hijos de Dios. Somos hechos hijos de Dios por el propio Hijo del Padre, con tal de que creamos en su nombre, o sea, en su personalidad divina. Vino para que, a través de Él, conociéramos definitivamente al Padre y aprendiéramos a hacer su voluntad.

            Hoy, cuando celebramos navidad, recordamos también toda la obra de Cristo para darnos a conocer al Padre, y podemos pensar en cómo hemos cumplido la responsabilidad de continuar su obra. ¿Podemos llamarnos Hijos de Dios? ¿Que estamos haciendo para extender la luz de Cristo en este mundo de tinieblas? El misterio de la encarnación se actualiza todos los días cuando somos capaces de vivir una fe encarnada, capaz de responder a las necesidades y aspiraciones de la humanidad.

 

Oración: Padre amado, permite que con nuestra fe y testimonio podamos ser hijas e hijos tuyos para siempre. Amén.

New Year

PREPARED BY GOD

John 15:1-7

Abide in me as I abide in you…

John 15:4 (NRSV)

            When we speak of a capable person, we are saying that he or she is apt, or has the preparation to do something.

            From the human point of view, feeling qualified to perform tasks accurately enlarges our ego and pride, producing a sense of security in ourselves. We feel that we don’t need anything or anyone to achieve our goals. We believe ourselves to be the owners of our lives and we can accommodate according to our opinions.

            One day Christ arrives and shows us, with harsh trials, that our capacity was only a deception created by ourselves to survive the harshness and filth of this lost and aimless world. Pride is buried in the past. Then we know, through humiliation, that we are nothing without Him and that our burdens are impossible to bear if He does not carry them for us.

            We are now prepared for any situation; but we know that it is not because of our forces that diminish like a product with an expiration date, but because of those of the One who does not rest, who does not let go or depart from us.

 

Prayer:  Lord, enable us to work in your work, to help and serve you always. Amen.

Año Nuevo

CAPACITADOS POR DIOS

Juan 15:1-7

Si ustedes se mantienen unidos a mí, yo me mantendré unido a ustedes…

Juan 15:4a

            Cuando hablamos de una persona capaz estamos diciendo que es apta, que cuenta con la preparación necesaria para  hacer algo.

            Desde el punto de vista  humano, sentirse capacitado para realizar  alguna tarea con exactitud, hace engrandecer nuestro ego y orgullo, produciendo una sensación de seguridad en nosotros mismos. Sentimos que podemos con lo que venga y que no necesitamos de nada ni de nadie para lograr nuestros objetivos. Nos creemos dueños de nuestra vida y la acomodamos a nuestro parecer.

            Un día llega Cristo y nos muestra, con duras pruebas, que nuestra capacidad sólo era un engaño creado por nosotros mismos para sobrevivir a la crudeza e inmundicia de este mundo perdido y sin rumbo. El orgullo  queda sepultado en el pasado. Entonces  conocemos, mediante la humillación, que nada somos sin Él, y que nuestras cargas son imposibles de llevar si Él no las lleva por nosotros.

            Ahora somos capacitados para cualquier situación; pero sabemos que no es por nuestras  fuerzas que merman como producto en caducidad, sino por las de Aquel que no descansa, que no nos suelta ni se aparta de nosotros.

 

Oración: Señor, capacítanos para trabajar en tu obra, para ayudar y para servirte siempre. Amén.
