VISITATION
LUKE 4: 16-21
“The Spirit of the
Lord is on me,
Because he has
anointed me
To proclaim the good
news to the poor.”
Luke 4:18
How marvelous it is that someone visits us
when we´re sick! The advantages of a
timely visit are multiple: the company, the pleasant conversation, prayer with
the family. But notice that I´m speaking of a timely visit, since some people
go to visit sick people without considering the hour, and their visit –
although well intentioned – becomes a great inconvenience for the sick one or
the whole family.
I share with you the statement of a friend
who was taking care of her mother who was in the terminal stage of her illness.
She was a teacher and was visited by a group of students. After a while they
began to converse about trivial things to distract their teacher from her
worries. The conversation was becoming raucous, with jokes and laughter, and my
friend felt uncomfortable. Her mother, who needed a peaceful environment, felt
the same way and began to breathe uneasily and showed great displeasure in her
face. Her students finally left and my friend felt very badly about their
visit.
Think about this. It’s very important to
visit the sick; but the visitation isn’t to get on good terms with our brother
or sister, or to complete a list of people visited, but rather it should be a
true accompaniment, motivated by mercy toward our neighbor.
Don’t lose perspective; and before visiting,
ask when would be the best time. Seek God’s wisdom to give comfort and
alleviate the sufferer’s burden. For us, Jesus is like God’s visit to this
world. As Jesus did, let us seek the guidance of the Spirit of God in order to
free people from bitterness, to show new visions of hope to those who have lost
faith, and to share the good news of the kingdom.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to alleviate another’s
burden, moved by your mercy. Amen.

VISITACIÓN
LUCAS 4: 16-21
“El Espíritu
del Señor está sobre mí, por cuanto
me ha ungido
para dar buenas nuevas a los pobres”
Lucas 4:18
¡Qué maravilloso es que alguien
nos visite cuando estamos enfermos! Múltiples son las ventajas de una visita
oportuna: la compañía, la conversación amena, la oración en familia. Pero noten
que hablo de la visitación oportuna; pues algunas personas van a visitar
enfermos sin planificación de horario y su visita, aunque con buenas
intenciones, se convierte en una gran incomodidad para el enfermo o para toda
la familia. Les comparto el testimonio de una amiga que cuidaba a su mamá, la
cual se encontraba en estado terminal de su enfermedad. Ella era profesora y
fue visitada por un grupo de alumnos. Luego de un rato ellos comenzaron a
conversar de asuntos triviales para quitar un poco de preocupaciones de la
mente de su profesora. La conversación fue subiendo de tono, con chistes, risas
y mi amiga se sintió incómoda. De igual manera, su mamá que necesitaba un
ambiente de paz, comenzó a respirar agitadamente y mostraba gran disgusto en la
expresión de su rostro. Finalmente, sus alumnos se fueron y ella se sintió muy
mal con su visita. Meditemos en esto. Es muy importante visitar a los enfermos,
pero la visitación que hacemos no es para quedar bien con nuestro hermano o
hermana, ni para cumplir con una lista de personas visitadas, sino que debe ser
un acompañamiento real, movido por la misericordia hacia nuestro prójimo. No
perdamos la perspectiva y antes de visitar, indaguemos sobre el mejor horario,
pidamos sabiduría a Dios para dar consuelo y aliviar la carga del que sufre.
Jesús es para nosotros como la visita de Dios a este mundo. Dejemos que, como a
Jesús, el Espíritu de Dios nos guíe para liberar a las personas de la amargura,
mostrar nuevas visiones de esperanza a los que han perdido la fe, y compartir las
buenas nuevas del reino.
Oración:
Querido Dios, ayúdanos a aliviar la carga, movidos por tu misericordia. Amén
