TOUCHING THE LIVES OF OTHERS

MARK 1:40-45

Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man, “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”

Mark 1:41

We human beings are naturally predisposed to living collectively.  This forms an essential part of us. However, many times we adopt postures of exclusivity which harm others, which isolate them.  We justify these attitudes with the supposed disadvantages and differences of others.

Jesus knew that there is no reason for anyone to suffer loneliness and exclusion.  This is why he allows himself to be sought out and he intercedes for those suffering from isolation.  Jesus restores the lives of those he touches; he brings them back into their community, into a life of fullness.

This integration can be as demanding a process for the excluded person as for the one who excludes.  It requires action, changes in thoughts, humility, communication and participation.

The simple act of extending a hand can perform the miracle that allows us to live together in harmony.

Today we receive a calling: let us extend our hands to another person, giving him the chance to be restored; let us be a healing community; let us touch the lives of those who suffer from exclusion.

Prayer: Lord, use us in order to bring healing in life through our inclusion. Amen.

MARCOS 1: 40-45

Movido a compasión, Jesús extendió la mano y tocó al hombre, diciéndole: Sí quiero. ¡Queda limpio!

Los seres humanos tenemos disposición natural a la convivencia colectiva. Esto forma parte imprescindible de nosotros. Sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones adoptamos posturas excluyentes que dañan a otros, que los aíslan. Lo anterior lo justificamos con las supuestas desventajas y diferencias de los demás.

Jesús sabía que no existen motivos para que alguien sufra la soledad y la exclusión. Por esta razón permite ser buscado e intercede por los que sufren aislados. Jesús restaura la vida de quienes toca, los trae nuevamente a la comunidad, a la vida plena.

Esta integración puede ser un proceso exigente tanto para el excluido como para el que excluye, que requiere acciones, cambios de pensamientos, humildad, comunicación y participación.

El simple acto de extender una mano, puede hacer el milagro de que podamos cohabitar juntos en armonía. Hoy se nos hace un llamado: extendamos nuestras manos al otro dándole una oportunidad para ser restaurado, seamos una comunidad sanadora, toquemos la vida de quienes sufren exclusión.

Oración: Señor Jesús, ayúdanos a seguir tus pasos para tocar la vida de las personas que necesitan sanidad, amor, comprensión. Permite que no hagamos acepción de personas, tal y como nos enseñas en tu palabra. Amén.
