1 SAMUEL 12:20- 22
Do not turn away in
search of useless idols.
They can do you no
good, nor can they rescue you
because they are useless.
1 Samuel 12:21
There was once a man
who had great riches and very precious paintings. He counted on many
friends who were always at his side. He also had the joy of having a son, but
the son died at the age of six.
This sorrowful and suffering man raised his glance
to the sky and thought about all his wealth, and how little it served to
alleviate his pain. It occurred to him then to seek out a famous painter whom
he asked to paint the image of his son, showing him his photo. He was happy to
have among his paintings one of his son also; but he died engulfed in great
loneliness.
All who knew him went
to an auction that was held to sell his paintings, beginning with that of the
boy. When it was sold the auctioneer said, “The
auction is finished!” Everyone was dumbfounded and asked, “How can it be over?” Someone spoke up
and told them about the last will and testament left by the man: Whosoever
bought the boy’s painting would be granted the rest of the works as a reward.
It’s the same with us
in our daily lives. We should know how to value the most important beyond the
material things: the love of our children, the warmth of the family, and the
company of friends. God invites us not to lose ourselves in vanities that do
not construct, rather to find ourselves with Him through the presence or the
memory of our loved ones.

apartéis en pos de vanidades que no aprovechan

libran, porque son vanidades

Era
una vez un hombre que contaba con muchas riquezas y cuadros muy valiosos. Contaba con muchos amigos, que siempre
estaban a su lado, también tuvo la dicha de tener un hijo, pero éste a la edad
de seis años murió.
Este
hombre triste y afligido alzaba su mirada al cielo y pensaba en todas sus
riquezas, y de lo poco que servían para remediar su dolor. Se le ocurrió entonces ver a un famoso pintor
al que pidió que pintara la imagen de su hijo mostrándole su foto. Estaba feliz por tener entre sus pinturas
también a su hijo, pero en medio de una gran soledad, murió.
Todos
los que le conocían fueron a una subasta que se hizo para vender sus cuadros,
comenzando esta por la imagen del muchacho.
Cuando quedó vendido, quien estaba guiando la subasta dijo: ¡Terminó!
Todos quedaron anonadados y preguntaban: ¿Por qué ha terminado? Alguien
habló sobre el testamento que había dejado el hombre: quien comprara el cuadro
del muchacho se llevaría los demás como recompensa.
Así
también nosotros, en nuestra vida cotidiana, debemos saber valorar lo más
importante, más allá de las cosas materiales: el amor de nuestros hijos, el
calor de la familia, la compañía de los amigos. Dios nos invita a no perdernos
en vanidades que no edifican, sino a encontrarnos con Él a través de la
presencia o el recuerdo de nuestros seres queridos.
