THE JOY OF LIFE

NEHEMIAH  8 

Do not grieve,

for the joy of the Lord is your strength. (NIV)

Nehemiah 8:10

Nehemiah had them in the palm of his hand. The Israelites had just heard the law of God and had accomplished its objective. The law came to their hearts profoundly and penetratingly. It made them feel guilty. In that moment they would have done anything Nehemiah might have asked of them.

Guilt may greatly motivate human beings. Instead of taking advantage of their feelings of guilt, Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared… Do not be sad because the joy of the Lord is our strength.”

Nehemiah knew that, although guilt can motivate under certain circumstances and for a moment, the joy of forgiveness is much more powerful, and is the source of strength for all Christian life. What motivates you as a Christian? Where do you find the strength to deny old habits and submit yourself to Christ’s rule? Nehemiah has the answer: the joy of the Lord is our strength.

The joy of the Lord, the joy of knowing his forgiveness and experiencing his happiness is our strength. This motivates us to faithfully walk with Jesus. Give up your past. Do not be sad because the joy of the Lord is our strength.

Prayer: O Father, your grace is the joy and strength of my life. Amen.

EL GOZO DE LA VIDA

NEHEMÍAS  8

No estén tristes, porque la alegría del Señor es nuestro refugio

Nehemías 8:10

Nehemías los tenía en la palma de su mano. Los israelitas habían acabado de escuchar la ley de Dios y habían logrado su propósito. La ley les llegó profunda y penetrante a sus corazones. Los hizo sentir culpables. En ese momento habrían hecho cualquier cosa que Nehemías les hubiese pedido.

La culpa puede motivar grandemente al ser humano. En vez de tomar ventaja de los sentimientos de culpa, Nehemías les perdona sus pecados y los envía a que vayan y coman de lo mejor, beban vino dulce e inviten a quienes no tengan nada preparado… no estén tristes, porque la alegría del Señor es nuestro refugio

Nehemías sabía que, aunque la culpa puede motivar bajo ciertas circunstancias y por un momento, el gozo del perdón es mucho más poderoso, y es fuente de fortaleza para toda la vida cristiana. ¿Qué lo motiva a usted como cristiano? ¿Dónde encuentra la fortaleza para despojar los hábitos viejos y someterse a la regla de Cristo? Nehemías tiene la respuesta. La alegría del Señor es nuestro refugio

La alegría del Señor, el gozo de conocer su perdón y experimentar su felicidad, es nuestro refugio. Esto nos motiva para caminar fielmente con Jesús. Abandone su pasado. No estén tristes, porque la alegría del Señor es nuestro refugio.

Oración: Oh Padre, tu gracia es el gozo y refugio de mi vida. Amén.
