MY TRUST IN GOD’S SUPPORT

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,

for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge

in the shadows of your wings

until the disaster has passed.   (NIV)

Psalm 57:1

The psalmist approaches God with sincerity and opens his heart amidst desperation.  In a nix of feelings, we find in this psalm the voice of someone who could easily be ourselves. The story has passed, the context has changed, but nevertheless the inner wrenching, the need of accompaniment, the hostile situations…that has not changed, it continues being a possibility in our existence, and also in our view of God.

When we feel this way what do we do?  Our first instinct, perhaps, may be to resolve the problems ourselves; but the psalmist begins his prayer with a supplication in which one can perceive the desperation of the moment through which he’s passing. He concedes to God the direction of his life, and places his trust in him, in God’s hand, and trusting in his power he will be able to confront any trial in this life.

Today we may think: what problems could affect our relationship with God and with others, now and in the future?  We may also be light for those who have to confront dissimilar situations today. Let’s encourage them to trust in God.

Prayer:  God, permit me to place my trust in you, to discover new possibilities when it seems as though all is lost. Amen.

Mi confianza en la ayuda de Dios

Salmo 57

¡Ten misericordia de mí, Dios mío; ten misericordia de mí!

Yo he puesto en ti mi confianza, y bajo la sombra de tus alas

me refugiaré hasta que haya pasado el peligro.

Salmo 57:1

El salmista se acerca a Dios con sinceridad y se abre en medio de la desesperación. En una mezcla de sentimientos, encontramos en este salmo la voz de alguien que bien pudiéramos ser nosotros mismos. La historia ha transcurrido, el contexto ha cambiado, sin embargo, el desgarramiento interior, la necesidad de acompañamiento, las situaciones hostiles… eso no ha cambiado, continúa siendo una posibilidad en nuestra existencia, y también de nuestra mirada a Dios.

Cuando nos sentimos así, ¿cómo obramos? Quizás nuestro primer instinto sea resolver los problemas por nosotros mismos. Pero el salmista comienza su oración con un ruego, en el que se puede percibir la desesperación por el momento que atraviesa. Concede a Dios la dirección de su vida, y deposita la confianza en él. De la mano de Dios, y confiado en su poder podrá enfrentar cualquier prueba en esta vida.

En el día de hoy, pensemos qué problemas podrían afectar nuestra relación con Dios y el próximo. Seamos también luz para aquellos y aquellas que tienen que enfrentar hoy disímiles situaciones, alentemos en ellos la confianza en Dios.

Oración: Dios, permíteme depositar en ti mi confianza para descubrir nuevas posibilidades cuando parece que todo terminó. Amén.
