Celebration of the Dependent Church in Paraíso Obrero

A CLASSIC SIGN

GALATIANS 6:1-10

If anyone thinks they are something when they are not,

they deceive themselves.

Galatians 6:3 (NIV)

“Wet Paint!”  That’s the classic sign that is placed when someone finishes painting a door, wall, or furniture, in a place where other people may come who do not know about the fresh paint. It’s a warning with a double purpose: to protect the paint so the work is not damaged, and to protect a person who may touch it. We are thankful for the person who put up the little sign.

If our Christian witness is not good, the little sign is also applicable. We cannot pass as Christ’s disciples if we don’t honor his name through our deplorable conduct marked by arrogance, vanity, or lies.

When a building is painted, at first everything is beautiful; but if the paint is not of good quality, pieces of it will soon fall. We see many people who start attending church and take part in everything, or want to convert all those around them, wanting the church to be powerful and important because of many activities; but inside their lives, when we take off the coat of paint, we find practically nothing worthwhile.

There are life-long Christians for whom “the paint has dried” but who continue to sully the church’s witness. That is why there is a need for a wet paint sign so that people who come into contact with these so-called Christians will not get paint on themselves and be perhaps permanently affected when they discover a false religiosity, a disguise for Christians bought on sale. We should remember that not all really are what they purport to be.

Prayer: I pray, Lord, that you will help me to live a truly Christian life. Amen.

UN CLÁSICO CARTEL

GALATAS 6:1-10

Porque el que se cree ser algo, no siendo nada,

a sí mismo se engaña.

Gálatas 6:3

“¡Ojo, Pinta!” Este es el clásico cartelito que se coloca cuando alguien termina de pintar una puerta, pared, o cualquier mueble, en un lugar donde se acercarán otras personas que desconocen que allí hay pintura fresca.  Es un aviso que sirve  para dos cosas a la vez: evita que se caiga la pintura y se eche a perder el trabajo, y evita que se manche la persona que lo toca. En fin, uno se siente agradecido de quien coloca dicho cartelito.

Si nuestro testimonio cristiano no es bueno, muy bien que también nos sirve el cartelito. No podemos reconocernos como discípulos de Cristo y no honrar su nombre con una conducta reprobable marcada por la arrogancia, la vanidad o la mentira.

Cuando se pinta un edificio, al principio todo queda muy bonito; pero si la pintura no es de buena calidad, enseguida se notan los pedazos por donde se  cae la misma. Igualmente vemos a muchas personas que comienzan a asistir a la iglesia y se muestran muy participativos, o quieren convertir a todos los que le rodean, quieren que la iglesia tenga muchas actividades para que sea poderosa e importante; pero en sus vidas, en lo interior, cuando quitamos la capa de pintura, no encontramos casi nada valedero.

También hay cristianos de toda  una vida y aunque “la pintura está seca” siguen manchando el testimonio de la Iglesia.  De ahí la necesidad del cartelito, porque aquellos que se acercan  a esos llamados cristianos, lo que hacen es salir manchados, ser afectados quizás para siempre, cuando descubren  una falsa religiosidad, un disfraz de cristianos comprado en un baratillo. Recordemos que no son todos los que están.

Oración: Te pido Señor que me ayudes a vivir una vida verdaderamente cristiana. Amén.
