USE YOUR GIFT

1 PETER 4: 7-11

And serve each other according to the gift each person has received,

as good managers of God’s diverse gifts.

Martha and Mary are two well known characters in the Bible.  As you remember, one stayed listening at the feet of the Lord, probably inquiring more and more about his life, becoming closer in her relationship with the Lord, and filling her life with his words.  The other took on an attitude that was to some extent logical and reasonable.  It was an attitude of positive work, attentive, hospitable and active in material needs of the daily work of the home. 

Mary was the servant through whom the will of God was sent to the world.  Through the Lord, Martha had another mission to complete.  When Jesus was arriving from his arduous mission with the sick, tired from walking, preaching and announcing the Gospel, a comfortable, clean and refreshing home already awaited him.  Martha did not sit to hear him speak, she did not sit, she spoke little, but her faith inspired her to work so that the Lord would feel comfortable.

There is nothing so beautiful in the Christian life than to live ready to respond effectively using the gift we have received from God, to take his message with us, exhibiting the many faceted grace of God.  We remember the words of the hymn:

Use my life, use my life,

For your glory, oh, Jesus

Every day and today I want to be

Your witness, Lord, wherever I may be.

Prayer:  We place our lives in service to the community, Lord, to serve you more and better each day.  Amen.

1 PEDRO 4: 7-11

Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, minístrelo a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios.

1 Pedro 4:10

Marta y María son dos personajes bien conocidos de la narración bíblica. Como se recuerda, una se mantuvo a los pies del Señor escuchándolo, probablemente indagando más y más  acerca de su vida, haciendo más íntima su relación con el Señor, y llenando su vida de sus palabras. La otra asumió una actitud hasta cierto punto lógica y razonable. Una actitud de trabajo positivo, atenta, hospitalaria y activa en las necesidades materiales, del trabajo cotidiano del hogar.

María fue la sierva por medio de la cual, la voluntad de Dios se hizo manifiesta al mundo. Marta tenía por el Señor otra misión que cumplir. Cuando Jesús llegaba de su ardua misión con los enfermos  rendido de caminar, predicando y anunciando el Evangelio, ya lo esperaba un hogar confortable, limpio y fresco. Marta no se sentaba a oírle hablar, ella no se sentaba, ella hablaba poco, pero su fe la inspiraba a trabajar para que el Señor se sintiera confortado.

Nada hay tan bello en la vida cristiana como vivir atentos a dar una respuesta efectiva según el don recibido de Dios, a llevar de nosotros su mensaje y exteriorizarlo según la multiforme gracia de Dios. Recordemos las palabras del himno:

Usa mi vida, usa mi vida

Para tu gloria, oh, Jesús

Todos los días y hoy quiero ser

Testigo tuyo, Señor por doquier

Oración:  Ponemos nuestra vida al servicio de la comunidad Señor, para servirte cada día más y mejor. Amén.
