HOW CAN I PLease GOD?

The life of Abraham is worthy of the deepest attention for Christians, in view of the ways in which God is revealed, in view also of the formation of his character under the circumstances in which God tested him.  

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe wrote this on the topic:  Abraham did not have a Bible he could read; he only had the promise of God.  As a believer he was almost alone, surrounded by unbelieving pagans.  He could not look back to a long history of faith; in effect, he helped to write this history.  Nevertheless, Abraham believed in God.  The people of today have a complete Bible that they can read and study, partners in the church, and can look behind at centuries of faith written about the history of the church and in the Bible.  Nevertheless, many refuse to believe. 

Abraham pleased God in the same way that we can: through faith.  He simply trusted in the Word of God, he didn’t walk by sight, but by believing that God would fulfill all that God promised.  In order to please God we have to believe him.  I am amazed at the love of God: salvation reaches everyone.  The test is the fact that Abraham has been justified by grace, much before the Law ever existed.

The poet Miguel de Unamuno must have a similar feeling when he chose to end his poem Redemption like this: 

Not by your works your treasures measure

But that the soul of faith pure in payment

Lifts up mercy to its falls.

Prayer:  God of all grace, my heart yearns to please you, to please you, beloved Father.  Allow me to always keep in mind that the only thing needed for this is to believe in you.  Amen.

La vida de Abraham es para el cristiano digna de la más profunda atención, en vista de las maneras en que Dios se le reveló, en vista también de la formación de su carácter bajo las circunstancias en que Dios lo probó.

El Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe al respecto escribió: Abraham no tenía Biblia que pudiera leer; solo tenía la promesa de Dios. Como creyente casi estaba solo, rodeado de paganos incrédulos. No podía mirar hacia atrás a una historia larga de fe; en efecto, él ayudó a que se escribiera esta historia. Sin embargo, Abraham creyó a Dios. La gente hoy en día tiene Biblia completa que puede leer y estudiar, compañeros en la iglesia, y puede mirar hacia atrás a siglos de fe escrita en la historia de la iglesia y en la Biblia. Sin embargo, muchos rehúsan creer.

Abraham agradó a Dios de la misma manera que nosotros: mediante la fe. Él sencillamente confió en la Palabra de Dios, no andaba por vista, sino creyendo que todo lo que Dios promete, lo cumple. Para agradar a Dios tenemos que creerle. Me maravillo del amor de Dios: la salvación está al alcance de todas y todos. Lo prueba el hecho de que Abraham haya sido justificado por gracia, mucho antes que existiera la Ley.

El poeta Miguel de Unamuno debió tener un sentimiento similar cuando escogió culminar su poema Redención:

No por tus obras tus tesoros midas,

Sino que el alma de fe pura en pago,

Se levanta merced a sus caídas.

Oración: Dios de toda gracia, mi corazón anhela agradarte, complacerte Padre amado. Permite tenga presente siempre que lo único necesario para eso es creer en ti. Amén.
