THE NARROW DOOR

LUKE 13: 22-30

Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you,
will try to enter and will not be able to.                                                                                                                        

Luke 13:24 (NIV)

Some years ago I knew a wealthy family who liked to live above the medium level that God planned for us. They could not get accustomed to the moderate lifestyle. For various reasons their resources were depleted and the change in their life was notable, even the death of two members of the family.

They were incapable of living with hardship and scarcity, and unprepared to face difficult situations and suffered desperately from the lack of simplicity to solve their problems and shortages.

God urges us to live humbly and not be slaves to wealth and comfort. The narrow doors seem always to be blocking our way in life; as persons, whatever our material and financial circumstances, we must learn to go through the narrow doors of life and know other people’s limitations.

Prayer: Lord, teach us to live humbly with no desire for wealth, and without pretensions of having more than others. Teach us to enter this type of narrow door. Amen.

LA PUERTA ESTRECHA

LUCAS 13: 22-30

Esforzaos a entrar por la puerta angosta, porque os digo que muchos procuran entrar y no podrán

Hace algunos años conocí una familia adinerada que gustaba vivir por encima del nivel de vida medio en que Dios convoca a desarrollarnos. No se acostumbraban a la vida moderada. Ocurrió que por diversas razones sus recursos se fueron agotando y el cambio en su vida fue notable, al punto de la muerte de dos integrantes de la familia.

No fueron capaces de vivir en dificultades y con carencias, no estaban preparados para enfrentar situaciones difíciles y sufrieron desesperadamente la falta de sencillez para resolver los problemas y carencias.

Dios nos exhorta a vivir con humildad y a no ser esclavos de la riqueza y de las comodidades. Las puertas estrechas siempre parece que obstruyen nuestro camino de vida; como personas, cualesquiera que sean nuestras condiciones económicas y materiales, debemos aprender a transitar por las estrecheces de la vida y conocer las experiencias límites de las demás personas.

Oración: Señor, te pedimos que nos enseñes a vivir humildemente sin ansias de lucro y sin pretensiones de estar por encima de los demás. Enséñanos a entrar por este tipo de puerta estrecha. Amén.
