LET’S WAIT  FOR HIM WITH HUMILITY
JOHN 1:6-9; 19-27
“I am not the Messiah.”

John 1:20b (NRSV)

    We can appreciate the humility of John when he declared that he was not the Messiah. John took no attributions that didn’t belong to him. He knew that his mission was to prepare the way for Jesus. It is surprising the humility with which John answers to the crowds who wondered if he would be the expected Messiah, John does not attribute what does not belong to him and, with all humility responds. “I am a voice that crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord,” just as the prophet Isaiah had said.

    Advent is a time when we await the most special arrival we can imagine. It is the time in which we prepare ourselves to receive again God in the form of a child. It means God's presence begun, but only begun. It implies that Christians look not only at that which has been and what has occurred, but also at that which is yet to come. If we have the assurance that this child was born, grew up, stood with people, died, rose again and every year is born again in our hearts, then that promise is fulfilled again and again for each of us.

Prayer: God of life, come into our hearts. We wait for you to renew our lives.

ESPERÉMOSLE CON HUMILDAD

JUAN 1: 6-9; 19-27

Yo no soy el Mesías

Podemos apreciar la humildad de Juan cuando declaró que él no era el Mesías. Juan no se tomó atribuciones que no le correspondía. Él sabía que su misión era la de prepararle el camino a Jesús. Es sorprendente la humildad con la que Juan le contesta a las multitudes que se cuestionaban si él sería el Mesías esperado; Juan no se atribuye lo que no le corresponde, con toda humildad responde: Yo soy una voz que grita en el desierto: Abran un camino derecho para el Señor, tal como dijo el profeta Isaías.

Adviento es un tiempo donde esperamos la llegada más especial que podamos imaginar. Es el tiempo en el cual nos preparamos para recibir a Dios nuevamente en la forma de un niño. Significa presencia de Dios comenzada, pero tan solo comenzada. Esto implica que los cristianos no miran solamente lo que ya ha sido y ha pasado, sino también a lo que está por venir. Si tenemos la seguridad de que ese niño nació, creció, estuvo junto a la gente, murió, resucitó y cada año vuelve a nacer en nuestros corazones, entonces esa promesa se cumple una y otra vez para cada uno de nosotros y nosotras.

Oración: Dios de la vida, ven a nuestros corazones. Te esperamos para que renueves nuestras vidas. Amén
