GET OFF THE TRACK PERICO BECAUSE HERE COMES THE TRAIN

Ezekiel 3: 16-21

If, however, you warn the righteous not to sin, and they do not sin, they shall surely live, because they took warning, and you will have saved your life.

Ezekiel 3:21 (NRSV)

            Many years ago, a merengue was in fashion whose refrain said: get off the track Perico, here comes the train! The author warns again and again that the train is approaching and Perico continues to be entertained, perhaps absorbed in his own affairs and concerns without realizing the danger that is upon him. The conductor wants to be responsible, and shouts: get off the track Perico, here  comes the train!

            In the end Perico dies. Let's see the possible reasons: Perico did not hear the whistle or the screams; he did not want to hear the warnings; he did not realize the real danger. The main reason and what the conductor did not know was that Perico was deaf. The song says, "if I know that Perico is deaf, I will stop the train".

            How many people die spiritually by our side? Simply because the drugs, alcoholism, violence, lack of faith, exclusion, or discrimination in which they live, do not allow them to hear, and we think that the Sunday sermon or reading a portion of the Scriptures is enough. We must make sure that our word is really heard. Watch out, here comes the train!

Prayer: Lord, allow us to realize that many times we are like Perico, deaf to your word. Please grant us that there will be someone nearby, who realizes we need special treatment to be able to listen to you, and when he says to us: Be careful, the train is coming! We can hear him and look to you for help. Amen.

QUÍTATE DE LA VÍA PERICO QUE AHI VIENE EL TREN.

Ezequiel 3:16-21

Si tú, en cambio, adviertes a ese hombre que no peque, y el no peca, seguirá viviendo, porque hizo caso de la advertencia, y tu salvarás tu vida.

Ezequiel 3:21

            Hace muchos años estuvo de moda este merengue, cuyo estribillo decía así: ¡quí¡tate de la vía Perico que ahí viene el tren! El autor advierte una y otra vez que el tren se está acercando y Perico continua entretenido, quizás absorto en sus propios asuntos y preocupaciones, sin advertir el peligro que se le viene encima. El conductor quiso salvar su responsabilidad, y grita: ¡quítate de la vía Perico que ahí viene el tren!

            Al final Perico muere, veamos posibles motivos: Perico no oyó el silbato ni los gritos, no quiso oir las advertencias, no se dio cuenta del peligro real; pero el principal motivo y que el conductor no conocía era que Perico era sordo. La canción dice "si yo llego a saber que Perico era sordo, yo paro el tren".

            ¿Cuántas personas mueren espiritualmente a nuestro lado? Simplemente porque la droga, el alcoholismo, la violencia, la falta de fe, la exclusión, o la discriminación en que viven, no les permite oír, y nosotros pensamos que con el sermón de los domingos o leyendo una porción de las Escrituras es suficiente.  Debemos asegurarnos de que nuestra palabra realmente es escuchada. ¡Cuidado, que ahí vienen el tren!

Oración: Señor, permite que nos percatemos, que muchas veces somos como Perico, sordos a tu palabra. Concédenos también que haya alguien cerca, que se dé cuenta de que necesitamos un trato especial para poder escucharte, y cuando nos diga: ¡Cuidado, que ahí viene el tren!, podamos oírle y mirar hacia ti en busca de ayuda. Amén.
