CALM IN THE MIDST OF STORMS

Habakkuk 2

For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie.

 If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.

Habakkuk 2:3 (NRSV)

            Despite living in precarious conditions, threatened by wars, oppression, extreme contempt, the prophet Habakkuk receives the vision that God would put things back together so that the people would have a secure existence.

            It’s often difficult in the midst of trials and problems to stay calm. Difficult situations put to the test our faith, our ability to see things objectively and with concentration, because fear or panic stresses us and we don’t know what to do. They make us impatient and nervous. Many people in these cases consider that it is efficacious to take medications in order to give us calm and rest.

            The ancient words of the prophet make sense for us even today, no matter in what situation we find ourselves. Their core wants to tell us about promises made by God that are fulfilled, and that although everything seems to say something else, God promises and fulfills. God does this and bestows it on those who do not lose patience and who devote their lives to God’s care.

Prayer: Holy Jesus, thank you for leaving us the words of this prophet. Let us redeem today the security of knowing that you are a faithful God to those who trust in you. Amen.

CALMA EN MEDIO DE LAS TORMENTAS

Habacuc 2

Pues la visión se realizará en el tiempo señalado; marcha hacia su cumplimiento, y no dejará de cumplirse. Aunque parezca tardar, espérala; porque sin falta vendráá.

Habacuc 2:3

            A pesar de vivir en precarias condiciones, amenazado por guerras, opresión, desprecio extremo, el profeta Habacuc recibe de Dios la visión de que Él recompondría las cosas a fin de que tuviesen una existencia segura.

            Muchas veces es difícil, en medio de las pruebas y  los problemas, mantener la calma. Las situaciones duras ponen a prueba nuestra fe, nuestra capacidad de ver las cosas con objetividad y concentración, pues el miedo o el pánico nos estresan y somos incapaces de saber qué hacer. Nos ponemos impacientes, nerviosos. Muchas personas en estos casos consideran que hasta es eficaz tomar medicamentos a fin de que nos den calma y descanso. Las antiguas palabras del profeta tienen aun hoy sentido para nosotros, sea cual fuere la situación en que nos encontremos. El núcleo de las mismas nos quiere hablar de  promesas hechas por Dios que se cumplen, y que aunque todo parezca decir otra cosa, Él promete y cumple. Él hace y otorga a aquellos que no pierden su paciencia y depositan su vida a su cuidado.

Oración: Jesús divino, gracias por dejarnos las palabras de este profeta. Permítenos rescatar hoy la seguridad de saber que tú eres un Dios fiel para con aquellos que en ti confían. Amén.
