BY THE MOUTH, KILL THE FISH

James 3: 1- 12

Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing.

My brothers and sisters, this should not be.  (NIV)

James 3:10

This is a very interesting text that one doesn’t find in the Bible by chance. By all accounts, here is a problem that  the Christian communities of that era had reflected upon. It’s curious how, from such remote times, it meshes with the theme of all Christians today.          

Those of us who have read The Little Prince know from the fox’s mouth that the word is the source of misunderstanding, and we can also add discussions, the destruction of life and the honor of many people as the direct consequence of gossip and rumor.

We can often fall into those errors without wanting to, but we need to consider that, by a simple damaging word about another, we can affect and hurt another human being, which is very far from what God wants from us. That’s why we have just one mouth, simply so that we may also have a single language.     

           

Prayer:  Our Lord, when some word comes from our mouth, may it always be to bless, thank, and strengthen, and never to hurt others. In Jesus. Amen.

Santiago 3: 1- 12

De la misma boca salen bendiciones y maldiciones. Hermanos míos, esto no debe ser así. 

Santiago 3:10

            Este es un texto muy interesante, que no se encuentra en la Biblia por casualidad. A todas luces aquí se refleja un problema que tenían las comunidades cristianas de aquella época. Es curioso como desde tiempos tan remotos, nos conmina hoy a volver sobre el tema a todos los cristianos.

            Quienes hemos leído El principito, sabemos por boca de la zorra, que la palabra es fuente de malentendidos y podemos agregarle también: discusiones, destrucción de la vida y de la honra de muchas personas como consecuencia directa del chisme y del rumor.

            A veces, sin querer podemos caer en estos errores, pero tenemos que pensar que por una simple palabra dañina sobre el otro o la otra podemos afectar, herir a otro ser humano, lo cual se aleja mucho de lo que Dios quiere de nosotros. Por eso es que tenemos una sola boca, simplemente para que tengamos también una sola lengua.

Oración: Señor nuestro, permite que cuando salga alguna palabra de nuestra boca siempre para bendecir, agradecer y fortalecer, y nunca para dañar a los demás. Por Jesús,  Amén.
