LET’S NOT KILL THE PROPHETS

Luke 13:31-35

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you… (NIV)

Various questions assaulted me upon reading this text, and were an anguish to me. In what ways are we continuing to kill God’s prophets today? On occasion, are we not like the Pharisees, supposedly in favor of Jesus, but yet intent to thwart his action in the world because to them it seemed risky?

Sisters and brothers, when we stop serving the vulnerable, we are killing the prophets. When we proclaim Jesus, but do not live according to his example, we are killing the prophets. When we are apathy’s prisoner, the lack of initiative and commitment to his work, we are killing the prophets. When our human relations are superficial or are spiced with unhealthy ingredients such as gossip, arrogance, and lack of compassion, we are killing the prophets.

It’s said that when Jesus, our good shepherd, pleads and laments for every failed intent on our behalf to return to his fold, God wants Jesus’ lament to make us turn from our errors, and to raise the prophets and proclaim his message!

 

Prayer: Forgive us, God, for the times in which we ignore your message, or we forget it as a false testimony. Help us to construct today, and all the days of our lives, the Kingdom announced by your son Jesus. Amen.

NO MATEMOS A LOS PROFETAS

Lucas 13:31-35

¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que son enviados a ti!

Lucas 13:34

Al leer este texto varias preguntas me asaltan y me angustian ¿De qué maneras seguimos hoy matando a los profetas de Dios? ¿En ocasiones somos como los fariseos, que supuestamente están a favor de Jesús, pero intentan detener su acción en el mundo porque les parece riesgosa?

Hermanas y hermanos, cuando dejamos de servir a los vulnerables, matamos a los profetas; cuando proclamamos a Jesús pero no vivimos según su ejemplo, matamos a los profetas; cuando somos presa de la apatía, la falta de iniciativa y de compromiso con su obra, matamos a los profetas; cuando nuestras relaciones humanas son superficiales o están condimentadas con ingredientes malsanos como el chisme, la arrogancia, y la falta de compasión, matamos a los profetas.

Es entonces cuando Jesús, nuestro buen pastor, solo puede lamentarse por cada intento fallido de regresarnos a su redil. ¡Quiera Dios que el lamento de Jesús nos haga regresar de nuestros errores para levantar a los profetas y proclamar su mensaje!

 

Oración: Perdónanos Dios, por las veces en las que desconocemos tu mensaje o lo olvidamos con un testimonio falso. Ayúdanos a construir hoy, y todos los días de nuestra vida, el Reino anunciado por tu Hijo. Amén.
