Mark 4:26-34

It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs

Mark 4:31-32 (NRSV)

Jesus affirms that from a small seed huge things and great achievements can arise. Today we should think about small actions that can make a difference because, even though they may be as small as the mustard seed, they can grow and become a great plant. Without doubt something powerful can arise from humble beginnings.

We must keep in mind that Jesus told this story to a group of disciples who were impatient with the slow results of their work. They wanted action, and they wanted it immediately! Here Jesus reminds them that God’s Reign is not in their hands, and that everything has its own time. Without a doubt something powerful can arise from small beginnings.

In the same manner, we must not lose hope when all around us everything is moving slower than we want. Jesus assures us that God’s Reign continues to extend itself in ways that we cannot even perceive. The parable of the mustard seed reminds us that we must be exactly the size that God calls us to be; God will bless the world through our works and extend his Reign through us for his glory and honor.

 

Prayer: Lord, may our faith be like a mustard seed that crows. Allow us to place the little that we are and have into your hands. Make it grow according to your will. Amen.

SIEMPRE ESPERANZA RENOVADA

Marcos 4:26-34

Es como el grano de mostaza, ... la más pequeña de todas las semillas que hay en la tierra; pero después de sembrada, crece, y se hace la mayor de todas las hortalizas.

Marcos 4:31-32

 

Jesús afirma que de una pequeña semilla pueden surgir grandes cosas y grandes logros. Hoy debemos pensar en pequeñas acciones que pudieran marcar la diferencia pues, aun pequeñas como la semilla de mostaza, pueden crecer y convertirse en una gran planta.

 

Tengamos en cuenta que Jesús contó esta parábola a un grupo de discípulos que estaban impacientes por los lentos resultados de su trabajo. Querían acción ¡y la querían inmediatamente! Jesús les recuerda aquí que el Reino de Dios no estaba en sus manos, sino que todo lleva su tiempo. Sin dudas algo poderoso puede surgir de pequeños comienzos.

 

Así que no debemos perder la esperanza cuando a nuestro alrededor todo se mueve más lento de lo que nos gustaría. Jesús nos asegura que el Reino de Dios sigue extendiéndose de maneras que ni siquiera podemos percibir. La parábola de la semilla de mostaza nos recuerda que debemos ser del tamaño exacto que Dios nos llama a ser; y Dios bendecirá al mundo a través de nosotros, extenderá su Reino a través de nosotros, para su gloria y honra.

 

Oración: Señor, que nuestra fe sea como ese granito de mostaza, que crece. Permítenos poner lo poco que somos y tenemos en tus manos.  Hazlo Tú crecer según tu voluntad. Amén.
