THE PLEASURE OF THE DESERT

Exodus 14:11

Therefore, I am going to allure her; will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her.  (NIV)

Hosea 2:14

A beautiful story to reflect upon:

“The desert is that lonely and empty place, a place of silence and solitude, a place of insatiable thirst and unsupportable weakness. Although it may have seemed undesirable and an unpleasant place, it is where God forges the best in us. An insatiable thirst brings us closer to Him and leads us to cry out, “Give me a drink!”

It is no coincidence that the word “desert” is so common in the Holy Scriptures. It was there that, for 40 years, the people of Israel had to wander. That was the place where they learned to listen and depend only on God, experienced true miracles, and received bread from heaven every morning, and water that flowed from a rock to quench their thirst.

When God speaks figuratively of the desert, he thinks of the perfect place for formation and communion, a place where other voices are silenced so that his voice prevails. God did not make the desert to kill someone with thirst, but on the contrary, to quench it in an extraordinary and sublime way.

The desert you are going through will not kill you; if you allow it, it will form and guide you toward your true purpose. It’s not about why, but for what. Today I invite you to give thanks for that.

 

Prayer: Lord, even though I don’t understand you, I trust and believe that you are in control, that you will get something extraordinary out of this, and that after my training, I will be the person you dreamed of me to be. Amen.

EL GOZO DEL DESIERTO

Y he aquí la atraeré y la llevaré al desierto y hablaré a su corazón

Oseas 2:14

Bella historia para reflexionar:

“El desierto es aquel lugar solo y vacío, lugar de silencios y soledad, lugar de sed insaciable y debilidad insoportable. Pero aunque pareciera indeseable y un lugar no grato para estar, es donde Dios forja lo mejor en nosotros. Una sed insaciable nos acerca más a Él y nos lleva a clamar: ¡Dame de beber!

No es casualidad que la palabra “desierto” sea tan común en las Sagradas Escrituras. Fue allí donde por 40 años el pueblo de Israel tuvo que vagar. Ese fue el lugar donde aprendieron a escuchar y a depender sólo de Dios, experimentaron verdaderos milagros, y recibían cada mañana pan del cielo, y agua que brotaba de una roca para calmar su sed.

Cuando Dios habla figuradamente del desierto, piensa en el sitio perfecto de formación y de comunión, lugar donde otras voces se callan para que la suya prevalezca. Dios no hizo el desierto para matar a alguien de sed, sino por el contario, para saciarla de una forma extraordinaria y sublime.

El desierto que estés atravesando no te va a matar, si lo permites te va a formar y guiar hacia tu verdadero propósito. No se trata del ¿por qué? sino ¿para qué? de ese desierto. Hoy te invito a que des gracias por eso.

 

Oración: Señor, aunque no le entienda, confío y creo que estás al control, que algo extraordinario sacarás de esto, y que luego de mi formación, seré aquella persona que tú soñaste que yo sea. Amén.
